Default Trunk not fully unlatching

When I try to open my trunk/boot (2002 X-Type) with either the trunk button or the key fob button it only 'half' unlatches. In other word it pops up maybe a quarter inch and is loose, but doesn't let me pull it the rest of the way open. I have to slightly lift up on the trunk while unlocking it to open it. I did some searching and it saw there are two plastic 'poppers' that attach to the trunk hinge that I was missing, so I got a used set of these that I assumed would fix my problem. They seems strong and in good condition. But no change. The rubber stopper that attach to the trunk lid also seem in good shape and are adjust as far out as they will go. What else am I missing? The lift struts seem fine in the sense that they hold the trunk open, but maybe this is the first sign they're weak? Given their price I'm reluctant to drop the cash on a new set of these unless that definitely the issue. Thanks!

You need to lubricate the latch itself (not with WD40, which is not a lubricant). On the X-Type the lid is not designed to spring fully open, only to release from the latch. The buffers that you have replaced at the hinges are designed only to aid that release from the latch, not to open the lid further.

Did we have trouble with the boot lid latch when these cars were introduced!!!!!
Many TSBs and updated parts.

Repalced dozens 'back-in-the-day'.
