Good morning from Texas. First, I think I may have incorrectly tried to post this the other day. I am having issues opening my trunk. It's not working with the FOB, but if I unlock the car, I can hear something in the locking mechanism and can press the button, and it will unlock. It won't pop up, but I can lift it. Then there are time pressing the button on the trunk will do nothing. I have read treads where people are talking about popping out the tail light to pull the emergency release, and some other quick options for accessing the truck. What do I need to replace to fix the issue. I have a 2003 X Type with a 2.5. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Mickey

 

You could do this first so you don't get caught out before the fault becomes permanent!!

If it does become permanent before you have an emergency access arrangement, this post gives some better/cheaper answers than breaking a rear light.

As your problem is intermittent it looks likely that the cause is a fractured wire in the flexible tube between the trunk lid and the body that has broken. A repair by soldering in a joining wire is straightforward. It's not an uncommon fault.
