Default Tyre size on an X type sport

Hi all,

I have an xtype sport 2002, my car currently has 205 50 17 size tyres on , when i've look around I can see most people selling the z type sport 17" rims on ebay and they all have 225 45 17 tyres on.
I'm having all 4 tyres replaced next week so cahging the size won't be a problem i just want to put the correct tyre size on there. From what i can work out the Rolling Radius is the same give or take a fraction.

Thanks in advance

David

Hi, there is a standard fitment guide in the FAQ which will give you various options.

Thank you for your help, I had tried the search feature but without sucess. I think the 225 45 17's tyres are slightly cheaper, presumably as they are a more common fitment.

@ David, that's odd, I just tried the link in the FAQ again and it goes straight to the download pdf, which opens with Acrobat reader.

I'm wondering if the North American market got a different size wheel and tire combination than you got. My car came standard with 225/40R18 tires, and I've seen that pretty consistently on the online tire sellers' web sites. That's only with the Sport package, mind you.

Edit: Just noticed that you guys are talking about '02 models. Mine's an '04. Perhaps the Sport package was modified over the years.

I think I will stick with 205 50 17's as when speaking to the tyre guy he said if it aint broke don't fix it.
@Translator The download still doesn't work for me, never mind, must be something at my work blocking it.

It's up to you but if you have a sport model you want the lower profile (45) and wider tire (225), you get better cornering and they fit. You tire guy is not a jag guy he is a tire guy. Us on the other hand are jag guys.

It's up to you but if the guys here say 225/45/17 is the proper tire go with it. Ive got a newer sport with the 18s and 40 series, makes a huge difference. 205 50s are cheaper which is why they're on your car, somebody cheaped out and as long as all 4 are the same size on an AWD car you're fine. But for performance you will be leaving a lot of it 'on the table behind you'.

Just my .02

The tyres are on now and she feel lovely, the back end digs in round tight courners rather that feels like its about to break free.
