Default Updates to the Jag!

Hey guys, this weekend I got some work done on the X-Type, so I just thought I'd share.

I got a full set of Kumho Ecsta 4X tires put on, Centric Posi-Quiet Ceramic pads put on, and StopTech SportStop slotted & drilled rotors put on.

I have to say these tires are definitely an upgrade from my previous Falken ZE-912s. The steering feels more responsive and quicker and ride quality seems improved too.

I haven't done a real hard test on the brakes yet, as I'm waiting a bit to let them break in, but I did have to come to an abrupt stop the other day and it was much improved from the old OEM rotors & pads.

I definitely recommend the Kumhos from TireRack and the brake parts from PartsGeek.com.

The tires were $116 each plus installation, and the rotors + pads were $365 SHIPPED to my door + installation. The performance rotors and pads ended up being cheaper than OEM.

Just thought I'd share my thoughts on my new parts for the Jag!

I put the same tires on my wife's Sentra, I'm very pleased with them.
Do you know how to bed in your brakes?

Awesome! Most people don't realize that there is a better way of doing things; I commend you for doing your research.
I always bed in my brakes.

Haha! Quick question though while we're on the subject. After doing the bed-in once, I noticed my rotors are pinkish and bluish and even yellowish in the drills/slots. I'm assuming that's because they've been heated so much?

The bluish colors are more toward the outside of the rotor, then the pinkish/purplish is next, and then yellowish at the center-most part.

Does this seem normal?

The bluing that you see is the actual metal heating and cooling, that's normal as I see it all the time on the track. If you got the rotors hot enough to blue it you may have been a little aggressive with the bed in but nothing to worry about.
The color in the center of the rotor sounds like you might have glazed the pads a little bit, also an indication of a little bit too much heat. Nothing to worry about, they should clean off in time. However without seeing for myself it's kind of hard to diagnose.
The color in the center (closer to the hat) doesn't make much sense at all. I've never actually seen those pads in action so I'd take this diagnosis with a grain of salt and continue to watch the behavior of your pads and rotors.
Keep us updated on how the pads and rotors behave as I also need to do all four corners and since I can't afford the setup that I want I will need to go with a more budget route. Thanks!

I've attached a picture of the rotor so you can see the different colors. It seems like it's just from them heating up in those spots, but the color hasn't changed since I did the bed-in around 3 days ago.
