Default Upgrade Suspension Or Exhaust System Or Both

Had welding done to get through the MOT last year so saved up in case the car needed replacing this year, however, seems any welding required will be light, so have some spare cash.

Am considering the Bilstein B12 Pro Kit for the suspension, on the assumption it will be better than the current bits, which are 8 years old with 30,000 miles so far.

JAGUAR X TYPE (CF1) 2.0 D, 2.0 V6, 2.2 D, 2.5 V6, 3.0 V6 Bilstein B12 Pro Kit Suspension Kit 46-194046 Only £837.70

Am considering retaining the mina gallery rear boxes, replacing the manifolds, all other pipework and silencers and having 200 cell sports cats.

Would appreciate any views on this.

I say do the suspension first so I can still be the first to run headers and aftermarket high flow cat. More power to you though if you can get it done 1st!

What manifolds are you wanting to use?

I keep having to say "it'll be a little longer, it'll be soon" blah blah blah. I have had a streak of crap financial outcomes so I'm way behind on my exhaust build. I have everything I need except half the money haha. Dont know about your ideal shops price but its going to cost me 1500 - 1800 in labor and I've already got about 800 into the parts! $$$ I'm lined up for 1st week of July at this point but I'm hoping to squeeze in a couple extra jobs here soon to make it hsppen in June.

Thanks for the reply

Was thinking the suspension will improve the car more than the exhaust in every day use

For the exhaust

Fast Road Conversions - 01233 662225 - Exhaust Specialists in Kent

Fast Road Conversions - 01233 662225 - Exhaust Specialists in Kent

Just need to see if they will include the already fitted mina gallery rear boxes without saying any problems will be down to those, and also finding a system which does not burble when taking the foot off the accelerator

It must be nice living in the UK and having access to the companies that will tune the car after the exhaust mods. Having a custom bent and welded set of manifolds is probably going to be expensive! I would suggest to wait till I'm done to find out if I can get the headers I have to work, if so, it'll be a lot less expensive for you to follow my footsteps.

The suspension is definitely a worth while investment, you will instantly enjoy the benefits of the tighter cornering and road handling. Most of us who have done the lowering springs and bilstein struts and shocks say that the car should have came likeit from the factory.

Here is the thread I started for it. Notice there Web hadnt been any updates in a while. As I said, been hit with financial disater after disaster in the last month but it should all be behind me now though... the last page has pictures of the manifolds I'm using plus all the other parts as well. Good luck on the suspension and be sure to put pics up when you're done!

How many hours should a garage charge for fitting the suspension?

Ohhhhh I'd say anywhere from 8-12 hours depending on rusted/siezed bolts and any other complications. Took the shop that did mine like 9ish hours I think.

The manifolds would have been 2300 USD to make, so that can wait until I win the lottery.

Had the exhaust replaced from the bottom of the downpipe to the rear boxes

Got a quote of 307 USD to fit the B12 Pro Kit

They suggested having the top mounts as well

$307 is really freaking cheap! Lol but $2300 for the manifolds is not cheap on the other hand. I bought mine from MSDS from 2 different duratec designed motors and if they end up working, (no reason they shouldn't work) they are a third of that price coated in ceramic from the fabricator. I'm just wrapping mine with exhaust wrap though...

Quote for B12 Kit from same place as the manifold, so maybe they didn't want to make one??

Should be fitted next week it's just the top mounts, which they said didn't cost much, but they do

Are these the ones and are only ones for the front needed?

GENUINE JAGUAR X TYPE FRONT SHOCKER TOP BEARING C2S3055 | eBay

Will be interested to see how you get on with the manifolds

Yeah those are it. I didn't change mine when I had it done. I haven't had any problems but I'm still wishing that I had them changed since the suspension was out. I would say do it if you can, it'll be worth it in the long run because you will know that you don't have spend the money to go back on and change them if the originals fail. Better to be safe than sorry!

Yes, you only need fronts because the rear is not a strut assembly, it's a seperate shock and spring assembly. I am pretty sure there are rubber/plastic spring isolators top and bottom that could potentially be bad but I doubt it.

Reading the post for adjustable rear upper control arms, what is the best option?

Wait to see if the wheel alignment is alright with the existing parts

Fit them anyway as the lowering springs will mean rear camber adjustment is more likely

If you can afford them, do them now. No point in paying for two alignments. Plus that's 4 less bushings to worry about.

Rear is lower, the front is taking an while

The shock absorber pistons are around 3 times the size so the bump stops do not fit

Still doesn't like lumpy tarmac, better than before but not improved so much as to merit the expense IMHO

Hi Santer,

I ordered the B12 from Germany, should be here in California by the end of this coming week. I'm trying put together a list of all of the various parts, both needed and just best to replace since you're down there,

Did you change out the bump stops? If so, what size did you find that fits the B12 kit?

I'm a bit confused regarding the strut mount. Does the strut mount assembly have the bearings in them, or do I need to buy bearings separately? Did you replace the coil spring insulators? I understand there might be two of them, both top and bottom.

Thanks in advance for any help you can be.

Replaced these, the part numbers are there

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/GENUINE-JA...item35e86ed604

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/GENUINE-JA...32844548&rt=nc

The existing bump stops do not fit as the pistons on the B12 shock absorbers are bigger

I would PM X-TypeMentality as he knows more than moi and best to get everything required now to get it right
