Default Very notchy manual gear change

I just bought my 2002 X-Type 3.0 Sport in December with only 39000 miles. The gear change definitely seems notchy to me as compared to the many other manual cars I have driven over the years. I was wondering if there was a linkage adjustment somewhere that may improve things, or is this the way it is. I have not driven another manual X-Type to compare.

Mine is a little rubbery but is just this side of a Mazda tranny in terms of smooth fun shifting. How's your fluid?

I dont know what you mean by "notchy"
the only thing that comes to mind for me is the older Ferrari shift gates. They had a very specific notch for each gear. This was considered the best of the best at the time.

I am very impressed with how little slop and play there is in my linkage, with my super high miles.

Although quite different in feel from my BMWs I dont think the jag feel is bad.

I think that given the incredible subjectiveness of this, it is ridiculous to ask a written forum to tell you if your shifter feel is normal. You will never get a decent answer unless you go and try another car or two.

Mine feels fine.. When it is really cold out it does feel somewhat "notchy" and then gets better as it warms up.
