Default weird idle issue - RESOLVED

a while back i posted about a weird idle issue i had where the idle would drop a little when stopped then go back up, back down and back up again...also there was a slight drop in idle when putting the car into reverse.
Another member had the same symptoms.
Today i replaced the poorly fitting o ring on the dipstick and the problems have gone, also its running even smoother.
Thats a leak i forgot will affect the running of the engine. My dipstick now takes a firm push to get the last 1/4" fully seated.
If you have those issues...or if your dipstick can be pulled out and replaced without effort, perhaps you should replace that o ring for about 80c and see if you get any improvement.

Thanks for getting back with the resolution.

We're adding 'RESOLVED' to thread titles where an issue is fixed to make them easier to identify in searches. I've edited your thread title to show this.

Thank you for sharing it with us!!!

Is there a part # for the ring or we can use a ring by size?

nardoswiss..most auto/hardware stores carry many sizes. It needs to be a tight fit in the indentation on the end of the dipstick...if it is loose it will just roll up to the end of the stick when you go to push it in.
I just took my dipstick into the store with me...i didn't notice what size it was

I have had this problem since I bought my x-type and believe I also posted in the other problem thread. BUT now that I read this I will be trying it out tonight. I will post back and let you know!

Occasionally that problem appears on my X. Just replaced the O ring an hour ago. Looks like the engine works a little bit smother (but maybe it's my sick imagination LOL).

Thx again for sharing this very valuable information!

Cheers

Nardoswiss...at first i thought it was my imagination too...but after a good few journeys i found my ride running smoother and without any fluctuations in the rpms...before changing the o ring, when shifting from drive to reverse and moving away..the car always felt like it may even stall...that is also fixed now.
Tiny o rings can cause all number of issues...i recently fixed a major issue in a friends cadillac after finding a torn o ring in his fuel pressure regulator...what a diagnosis that turned out to be :+)
