What happens if I use a not Jaguar alternator
Thanks, Thermo. But again, if I go to Scranton (35 miles away from me) how do I get back home when I leave Mona there to be "treated?" I am still looking for a name of a "decent" digital multimeter and a name of a best recommended battery for a 2007 Jaguar x-type when the Interstate battery she has now (MPT 94R/7H with 790 CCA) had its 30 months warranty expired in April and the alternator, you say, is charging her nicely.
Thank you. XKDreams. I was just looking for a multimeter but did not find a multimeter with perfect reviews so I am confused. Please give me an example of a "decent" digital multimeter. and I will give you an update. Meantime, no matter how I start cold, after a short trip to the post office for example, my battery returns "full" and and making it "fully charged" (without exact voltage number not having a multimeter yet) through running, I think that the alternator is good with charging it, no?
Hey Marcela, I have an Extech which I’ve been happy with for over 15 years. But, for value I’d suggest a Klein which is known for good tools. This one looks good.
marcela, talk with the shop. I am sure you can find a good book to get into for a few hours as you wait. If that is not your style, then yes, you will have to wait a little bit unless you may want to try a service like Uber. You would possibly have to use them twice, but you simply arrange a time with Uber and they will have someone there to drive you home and then when you are told the Mona is ready, you call them up again and arrange a driver to drive you back. Not sure what it would cost as I have never used Uber. Normally they also have a "special deal" for new customers where their first ride is discounted by some amount. That would help to ease the cost. But, the real question is how you feel about sitting in the back seat of someone else's car as they shuttle you around. Some people are game for that. Others, not so much.
[QUOTE=sov211;2751313]Marcela: there is another cause for the red battery light, and it has nothing to do with the alternator. That red light will illuminate if one of the battery cables (or both) are corroded inside their covering.
Another cause of the red light is if the battery is overheating or low on fluid (if lead acid), at least that has been my experience driving in the hot (+100 F) southwest USA. Once cooled, the battery checks okay. Suggest determining time in service of battery. If 6+ years, replace it with an AGM.

Squito, my interstate battery 93/7h is 3 years old, a little over the 30 months of its warranty but I am not sure how actually old this battery is as it was provided by the mechanic, not an autoparts store. When the red light started I discovered yellow powder surrounded its posts.
