I've heard a lot of conflicting info on the matter, and wanted to clear things up.

I went for a Samsung which had the highest cranking amperage that would fit the box.. hoping despite the cost it will pay dividends in the winter :-)

Bosch Silver HSB110. I use a Bosh Silver in my S-Type and I'd highly recommend them.

I would recommend any major brand battery (most American labels come from the same factories anyway) rated to at least 640 CCA (cold cranking amps) and 75Ah.

My battery is a Duralast Gold 94R-DLG which is rated at 765CCA / 80Ah. It has been an excellent battery for the last three years.

I went to WalMart and picked up the Ever-start brand. It's quite small, but it fits perfectly and works like a champ.

I also put in a Walmart Everstart Maxx H7 (H7 94R). Good fit & works great.

As has been stated there are only 2 battery manufacturers in the US--Exide, and Johnson Controls. So no matter what battery you buy it is made by one of them. I replaced mine with a Walmart Everstart Maxx. It is made by Johnson controls. It carries a 9 year warranty with the first 3 years being FREE replacement if it fails. The balance of of the warranty is pro rated. I have had it for 3 years now and no issues.

Optima Red Top ---- worth the money as it can get cold where I live and plan on an aftermarket audio set up. Any of the suggested would work fine. My only suggestion would be to make sure you get one of the same size... nothing like a new battery that wont fit in your battery box.

Optima batteries are the way...just pricey..had a yellow top for some time and really enjoyed it...will start the car in any weather...
