what rpm's do you go up to on a normal acceleration?
XKR, I have the 3.0L engine and I normally depress the gas pedal to the point that the car will shift at about 3,000 RPM in first, just above 3,000 in second, just under 3,000 in third, and then about 2,700 in fourth. Keep in mind that I normally don't move my foot any. THis is a nice pace to accelerate at yet you are not getting on the car really hard.
depends on need, if I'm in no hurry and i see that il be slowing soon ill maybe go 2.7-3, usually though it goes to 4-4.5 as im used to having a bit more umph in my other car. if i misjudged the speed of a car when turning onto a street i dont fear taking it to redline (or whatever the TCU makes it shift at)
I have the 2.5 and I let it shift at about 3.5k rpm on normal acceleration. But since I have a vacuum leak that I'm still trying to track down (hopefully its not the throttle body) I have to keep it under 3k rpm.
I too have manual and try to never exceed 2500 in town at upshift point. My goal is to see what kind of fuel economy I can get and so far my best is 24 MPG on a pure city driving cycle. But this is no fun, I admit.

Well, that is normally just 2nd gear, then I tend to shift right into 4th and slow down before I get caught. On the highway, that would be 3rd gear, wind 4th up to 4 then 5th and slow down.
In my '07 X-type Auto, the car feels good shifting between 2500 and 3000 rpms. Highway I'm turning 2500 at 70 mph. This must been where the power curve starts because I can excelerate easily without a downshift. I get 24 mpg total and almost 30 mpg straight highway. Jack
2.5 manual.
I run it to redline quite often. But during normal shifts, it seems most comfortable shifting around 4000RPM. That puts me in 5th on the highway at just under 3000RPM quite nicely.
While I love to wind out this little engine, once I'm up to the speed limit or traffic speed, the cruise control comes on and I don't vary speed much. I drive mostly highway.
I see 27MPG regularly. I recently tried 90 octane fuel with no ethanol, thinking I might get better MPG. But, in my case, I did not. Plus I lost a bit of power vs. the 93 octane Sunoco I normally run.
