Okay, now that i have an idea about looks, can anybody help me out with this SLR performance chip and its specs, i have a 2002 2.5 auto x type, im also wondering, my buddies told me to just get the 18's off the a xj possibly r type, and throw them on too my x type, and ideas, opinions, and wheel combos, also should i bother with performance, that cars fast, but i'd like to make it faster. The chips said to add 50 more horsepower and torque, i know theres a guy whos done it one here, but i need his opinion.

 

Disco, first, if the product is claiming a 50 hp/torque gain, plan on about 20. I haven't seen a product yet that even comes close to gaining what it says it will. Also, keep in mind that with the more power, you will be wanting to use the more power and will lead to transfer case issues. Not saying you shouldn't, but understand what the weak links of the car are.

As for pulling tires off of say an XJ and putting them on your vehicle, the first thing I would check is how much of a difference in tire width and height there is between your current tires and the new tires. There isn't a lot of spare room inside the wheel wells for going much bigger. Also note, just because it is a Jaguar rim, it may not fit on your vehicle. The XJ's use a 5-475 bolt pattern and your car uses a 5-108 bolt pattern. So, slight differences. Now, you can use the wheels off of say an S-type. Those will work. Keep that in mind too.

 

I have the SLR performance chip on my Jaguar, and I dont think it gave it 50 hp. It did make a difference, you can feel it, and it gave me like a mile per gallon or so more. Install was not bad, and they give you a booklet for instructions. I also gave my car borla exhaust, so the combo really boosted power by quite a bit. As far as tires, I put Michelin Pilot Sport A/S tires, and I HIGHLY reccomend those. They make the car so much quicker around turns. They really are the best all around tires you can get. They are not cheap, but you can find them on sale once and a while. They also give a ride of a true luxury car.

 

I will take my car to the dyno and post the specs. Im not sure when I can get to a dyno, but I will get there!

 

2004, the issue that you are going to have is getting what is called a 4 wheel dyno. You can not use the traditional dyno as it only allows 2 wheels to be put on the dyno at any given time. So, you will have to do some calling around. If you talk to the local shops, ask them if they can do AWD cars like the X-type and Subaru WRX's. If they say yes, then you are golden. Granted, get ready to pay about $59 a run plus any latching down fees. Each shop has different fees, so, call and see what they will charge you. I have gotten my truck dyno'ed and I only paid $40 for 3 runs, but then, we had a line of 20 trucks that went through the shop in a single day and we got a special for doing that.

 

Thanx gus, and i was on the website and it said its only 69.99 is this ture, and i would like a bit more horsepower, the car kinda gets sluggish after a while. So will the 22's, or other sizes list at this website work, i really like the look of the rims.

As far as I know, the highest you should go with the X-Type is 20 inch.

 

please Please PLEASE DO NOT put 22's on your x-type...I think 18's are a good balance between performance and looks on the x-type.

 

I know a place that has a 4 wheel drive dyno, and it is a little less than most. My dad took his 2007 Subaru WRX STI Limited there, and they are very good from what he says.

your car and your call at the end of the day but I think the biggest I've seen that works reasonably well has been the 19's.....even then maybe with some rubbing issues.
Anything over that seems to cause way more problems than enough.....but check it out for yourself

18's are perfect. Maybe some 19's. After that you start getting into ghetto baller rapper type looking car. And that just kills the looks for me. But i'm also against people who go out and throw 22's on their s-classes and bentleys. I like rims that make the car sporty. Not ones with werid designs that look stupid. Staying with traditional looking spokes or mesh rims looks best. Something like BBS, HRE, DPE, Work, Champion, Kinesis, etc. I love those. I hate giovanis and asantis and w/e bull**** companies like those. Their rims are truly ghetto.

Not all those companies make rims for Jaguars but I'm just stating them as an example of the types of rims I think look good. HRE and DPE make custom rims (offsets and bolt patterns) so they can fit any car almost.

Oh and once you start getting larger wheels your car will become a lot slower. And its not like x-types are rocket ships to begin with... Not to mention that unsprung weight goes up. Handling gets a lot worse. and there are other problems.

 

yeah im not into the hardcore ghetto style ether, i want rims that are sporty, and you can see almost everything behind them, something to make it look fast

 

If you want to see the brake rotors and calipers behind the wheel, i'd go with a thin 5-spoke wheel. It's a classic design and looks good on every car. Keep in mind that the stock x-type brakes are puny so it will look bad unless you upgrade to larger rotors. Consider getting some cross drilled/slotted rotors. Then it will look sick.

 

22 arent ghetto. lol. either way.. id keep it stock. find u some jag 18s. ull love it. rims are a headache regardless.

 

Disco, I kept my factory 17's for my dedicated winter tires and went with these Enkei J-10s for my summer tires. Kept them at 17 as well as I like a bit more rubber between the road and the rim than a 35 or 40 profile you would need if you put on 18 or 19" wheels. 19" is as big as you want to go without trouble on your X. Something like these J-10s give you that see-through look you want but I'd have to agree that you really need to upgrade the rotors and paint the calipers for a better effect.
