RC, I would recommend the all ceramic pads if you can find them. The local auto parts store should have some for you. I bought my pads as part of a whole kit (4 rotors-crossdrilled and slotted, along with the ceramic pads). I have about 45K miles on my pads now and they are looking almost new. I don't think I will be replacing the pads any time in the near future (ie, next 50K miles or more).
The other pads that a lot of members have been very happy with are the EBC brand pads. With EBC, you get to choose the style pad that you are after. You have The Ultimax (black), Green, Red, and Yellow pads. The blacks are you everyday pad. As you go through the colors, they get more and more grippy (with yellow being the grippiest). But, this also comes at a cost (dollars wise). These are all ceramic pads, so, the dust is minimal if that is a concern. Your local shop should be able to special order in these pads if this is the way that you want to go.
If you need more info, let me know.

I have EBC RedStuff pads all around, with stock discs. While my original brake pads still had a lot of life in them, the difference when braking is fairly massive. There are two downsides, first is that they produce a lot of dust during the first 500 miles or so, which should wash off easily. Second downside is that they do squeal occasionally, but it is unlike any other brake squeal I've heard before as the noise is fairly silent but very very high, which makes it quite irritating. It's still only occasionally, though. Maybe they get less squealy as they warm up or something.

replacement discs & pads
Ebay is the place for a deal on Discs & Pads. I have just changed all of mine. The cost me £69 for the lot - see link below.
Front & Rear Brake Kit Discs & Pads (300mm & 280mm Bosch System) - Jaguar X Type | eBay
They have been fitted and work beautifly.

I purchased drilled and slotted rotors plus posi quiet ceramic pads on the bay...

I'm very pleased. No dust, low wear rate and sufficient stopping power.
Remember: Ceramic brake pads require more pedal pressure for the same stopping power. This upsets some people. But be assured, my car, equipped with the Ceramic's at all 4 wheels, will still easily engage the anti lock brakes at any legal speed, on dry roads.
It simply requires more pressure on the brake pedal.
