where is my amp at at...
I have a 2005 jag xtype.WITHOUT the premium sound pakage..Im asumming the system is still amped cuasu it still kicks preety good...I think its supossed to be 120,watts but not sure if thats rms or not.Does anyone know if I still have an amp and wher the heck it is and if I do what kinda power it runs..I posted pretty much the same question in the audio section..apolagies for similar posts
Irish, if I am correct, the amp is integral to the radio itself. So, there is no external amp. I don't have the wiring diagrams for the 05's, but the 03's the amps are integral to the radio.
Looks like I will have to throw in another amp.Any idea what the factory deck is in terms of rms. Most new deck are luckt to push a clen 18 watts a side,so these being somewhat of an upgraded stereo im guessing it might 25 or so rms.
Buck, I don't know many automobile manufacturers that rate their systems in RMS. They all want the peak values because it makes Joe Schmoe feel like they are getting more stereo than they really are. Gotta love playing with numbers. Only those that know what the numbers truely mean know what they are getting.

I have a 2006 X-Type with the base sound system, i would like to up grade it with original equipment only. Do they make CD players with a 6 discs changer ? And if i change the speakers only will it make a big difference?? thanks
I have a 2005 with Premium sound and navigation.
The amplifier is in the left hand side of the truck beside the DVD player...you have to pull the carpet away to see it.
My understanding is the base system does not have an external amplifier, just the normal head-unit amplification.

From building a few systems in the past, the higher end speakers (not saying that the Alpines in the Jag are really high end) have a higher RMS than a factory head unit can put out. Most need external amplification.
I would venture to say that it wouldn't sound very good as the speakers would be underpowered, but I don't know the ratings of either speakers.
