I HAVE AN 2004 JAGUAR XTYPE AND THERE IS A LOUD WHISTLE NOISE AT 35 TO 45 MPH. MYMECHANIC CALLS IT A "GHOST NOISE" AND NOT TO WORRY ABOUT IT. ID LIKE TO FIX IT AS IT IS VERY ANNOYING. ANY SUGGESTGIONS AS TO WHAT IS COULD BE?

Welcome to the forum, Gloria. There is a lot of good information here and a lot of friendly people willing to help.

As for your issue it sounds like it might be the prop shaft carrier bearing. Some members have found out that by greasing it the noise would go away. Do a search on here as there is a ton of information about that very subject. See if that sounds like your issue. More annoying than anything serious if that is what you are hearing.

 

Or it could be something as simple as one of the windows failing to close right up. If it's open by 1/8 inch, you won't see that from inside, so check from outside, but a small gap will create a loud whistle at the speeds you give.

To reset the windows, press and hold the down button until the window is fully down and you hear a click. Hold the up button until the window is fully up and you hear another click. That should be it. If not, disconnect the battery for 10 secs and then reset all the windows as above.
