Default Will engine light go off by itself after repairs are made?

I just had Autozone read my codes when the check engine light came on. It was a P0057, bad Bank 2 downstream O2 sensor (2/2). I was able to get some help by reading threads on this site to identify where the sensor was located. Replaced it in about an hour or so.

My question is: will the engine light go off by itself after some driving time, or do I have to have someone reset it before it will go off?
Thanks.

it may go off after so many key cycles, alot of em. But it depends on the code, many connected with OBDII like 02's do not. some do, the light may go off but the code will ALWAYS be there in historic and screw you when you get a state emmissions insp. So why dont you just get a snanner and clear it yourself and you can have it for other cars and future ck engine lights

Default thank you

Thanks for the info.
You're probably right. Good idea to have one of those devices around.

My CEL turned off as soon as I restarted the car after replacing the IMT rings. I was pleasantly surprised needless to say.

Usually takes about 3 hot/cold cycles to put out the CEL , did mine anyway after the PCV pipe imploded and was replaced.

Mike.

Also, if you can't afford a scanner right now, find an autoparts store (O'Reilly's) that will let you borrow one without the help of an employee. This usually requires a deposit. Go outside, clear the codes, give back the scanner, get your money. Free. Yay.

I don't know about you guys, but I keep my reader in the trunk. I never leave home with out it. Ya never know when a code will pop up on ya, and at least you can read it and try and clear it, so you don't have to lump home and maybe do something more to a problem starting. Getting home is the most important thing, then you can go from there.

Hey Bond, I went to Autozone and found a reasonable one for under 90 dollars, I'm a retired machanic not by choice, by accident hit by a 18 wheel dump truck 22 years ago. But anyway, I use a Actron, Auto Scanner (Professional grade) CP9575, with Mfg Specifications, updateable, code erase option, Emissions status, Live data, and Frezze frame. It has everthing that I want to know about the way the car is running, and I think all this can be printed out as well. For the price and the other things I can use it for and on, I couldn't beat it. It gives all the information on the Jaguars, and other over sea cars too, and like I said upgradeable, can't beat that for the price.

Thank you very much to all of you for your replies. I agree, I should have one of those devices. By the way, after about 15 miles of driving, the light went off all by itself.
