the transmission works fine. ITs just the plastic with the park neutral reverse and drive. wont let it get into gear. is there and adjustment that can be done to fix this?? I have take the plastic off and it will get into gear that way.

 

204xtype. from what you are describing, you have an issue with the J-Gate (the shifter) and that the solution to this is installing a new J-Gate assembly. Unless something has hit the center console and it has tweaked the center console and is now causing the cover to interfere with the shifter handle. But, without additional information, I am just making logical guesses.

J Gate is really the whole complex. Granted, if you wanted to break it down, then the J Gate really is the shifter and the plastic piece on top is simply trim.

What was done to the car just before this symptom appeared? odds are, it is tied to that. Granted, from what you describe, it sounds like something solid hit the center console and tweaked things good.
