Would the key transmitter cause this problem?
I bought my car last week and the buttons on the transmitter didn't work, so today I took it apart and took the battery out. I left the transmitter apart since I ordered the battery online and it still hasn't arrived. Well, today I tried to start the car with only the key part of the transmitter(didn't put it back together since I'm still waiting for the battery) and got all kinds of problems. First, the car wouldn't start, no noises, nothing. Then the stereo wouldn't come on and got a "gearbox fault" on the odometer...later on everything just turned off and nothing would happened, almost as if the battery was dying(maybe it did die).
The car was working perfectly until I took apart the transmitter and tried turning it on with just the key part, so that's what I'm thinking caused this?

nothing to do with the remote. I start cars all the time when programming keys and no remote. Useally the batteries are not the fault but static electricity buildup the takes out the circuit board in the remote

Everything normal, lights on dash come up and goout as expected, whirs and whistles from be hind the dash, but in Key position III (start) I only hear repeated clicking from behind the dash (more towards the passenger side). The engine does not engage.
A bit lost, so any advice welcome.
Hi, no messages on the dash other than the usual "low temp outside" warning. I am wondering if I am looking for something complexe, when in fact it is an old fashioned low/old battery. I am going to try having the breakdown company jumping the car 1st and see if that does it. I will update my post later.
Thanks for the quick response by the way.
