My mech says we should chnge the catalytic converter is this true?

Could be but you could try the kinds of things others have posted about (this forum / this site). Search will get you ideas that are much cheaper if they pan out.

Does Kenya have a tight emissions inspection?

If not, you can gut the cat, and add "cheaters" to the downstream sensors for much less than that convertor will cost.

It shows a code for a faulty o2 sensor on that bank, if it is bad then the bank cannot be read correctly by the computer. It may be a just in case code if it cannot monitor the true data. You can try swapping the B1&B2 downstream sensors and see if the codes swap banks also.

we removed the honeycomb from the cat since it had melted. seems okay for now
