Default The X got hit again!

The worst year of my life! I went to a club yesterday, paid 10 dollars for parking, and then when i got back to the car, i saw it had been hit on the front bad (hit and run what kind of ***** **** is that). Being the idiot that i am i didnt get a police report cos the lot was full of people, and a lot of cars.I thought the car was still in driving condition so i drove it back home. Wudnt u guess it, my front driverside tire blows out and i go in to the side barrer on te freeway. My tire is shredded, and bith my leftside rims are ruined. Luckily i had my stock wheels on as i was goin to be getting some services done. But long story a little shorter, my hood is totaled again, headlight smashed fender bent, and bumper a little scratched. Now ill be making the long call to the insurance company to explain this alll over again. All i gotta say is FTMFL!

That sucks man, sorry to hear it. Of course your insurance company will pick up the tab for this, not that it makes it any easier.
Ive always dreaded parking my car in public places and I always look around it whenI come back to make sure no one has dinged it or worse yet deliberately vandalized it.

Hope you get sorted quickly.
You would be suprised at how much car park damage comes into our bodyshop where the culprit has left without saying anything. We had one recently whena car scraped another when the owner was in the shop. The owner came out and found a note on her windscreen saying "sorry I damaged your car.Ring me to sort out" but didnt leave a name or contact number[&o].No CCTV footage either[:@]

You don't take a jag to a crowded parking lot full of drunks at night. It was bound to happen.

Get a beater or ride with someone else in places like that.

Sad, Hope they fix it up for you.

The CEL and the ABS lights came on after i hit the curb when the tire blew out, does anyone know if this is goin to cost a lot (just in general as u cant really tell without seeing the car) or what the problem could be?

CEL...is this CHECK ENGINE LIGHT??
If so it happened to mine.Common problem. On mineit was one of the two rear ABS speed sensor rings whichcame off. There will be a code for it.I posted a step by step guide on how to check and fix this a while back.
They are prone to corroding and falling off.
You will need an outer CV joint (the ring is attached to it) and about 1-1.5 hrs to fix if I remember.
My total bill was £148 but was covered by aftermarket warranty at the time.
If your claiming on your insurance for the accident repairs then this should be taken care of too as it only failed due to the accident, right?

Thats exactly how i feel big.

Buck, im pretty sure that the tire blew out due to the hit, i had checked the tires the day before and they looked in good shape. What is an aftermarket warranty?

I bought my car 2nd hand from a used car dealer.
I had the option of buying it with a years warranty from a 3rd party warranty company like this one http://www.warrantydirect.co.uk/ (dealer acts as an agent and it wasa £150 optional extra) or without a warranty (in the UK you get 30 days warranty when buying a used car from a dealer even if you dont take the optional extended warranty).
The warranty covered parts and labour of the failure of the speed sensor due to corrosion of the meatl ring. They wont pay dealer rates though so I took it to a Jag specialist.

does neone know if the insurance will cover the tire and the two wheels that got damaged. One wheel is not drivable, and the other is curbed pretty bad.

They probably will.If they refit old tyres there might be a chance of it blowing if its been damamged in any way.The insurance engineer will look at your car to make a decision and could make you pay towrds the cost or not depending on how much wear you had out of the pre-acccident.Then again some insurers might just replace them depends on how insurance works over there and which insurer you are insured with.Tell the engineer when he rings you after he has seen your car that you wont be happy unless the tyres concerned are replaced. We had a case at our bodyshop when a car pulled out of a junction and was hit side on dragging the car sideways along the road. The insurance company replaced all 4 tyres as they had been flatspotted and they didbt want to risk blowing out after car was repaired.
Speak to your insurers,

In the UK, your insurance would cover you to put your vehicle back in the state it was before the accident + hit and run damage, or if it was cheaper they'd get you a replacement vehicle. In your case it sounds fixable so it should be the former. You may be asked to pay a part of the cost for something like a tire if it was already badly worn, but given the side damage your car sustained I doubt they could pull that one on you. If you can get CCTV footage of the hit and run vehicle from the carpark then the police and your insurers may be able to trace them down and recover the costs, but from my experience of when things like that happen that is very unlikely to happen.

Obviously your tire and broken wheel would be replaced (it is not drivable with them) and I would be very, very surprised if they wouldn't have the other wheel repaired or replaced. So long as your insurance company where aware of any non-standard mods before the accident, they should be repaired/replaced in-kind. If the wheels were non-standard and not declared to them then they may only pay for the standard ones (but you said they were back on your standard rims for a service, so that shouldn't matter).

It is stories like this that reinforces my belief that all cars should be fitted with black box cameras all of the time. Here in the UK there is a very common insurance fraud where gang members will engineer an accident (i.e. disconnecting their brake lights and doing an emergency stop on a busy roundabout). They then claim it was your fault (rear collisions are usually uncontestable) and claim personal injuries for 5 other people who were not in their car! With a camera on your car you could prove your innocence and maybe get them thrown in jail. All the bus companies are doing this now because they used to be the main targets of this sort of fraud. It would also catch people who think it is ok to damage someones car when they are not around and then run away like cowards. It is sad that it is necessary; it seems very few people have the guts to stand up for their responsibilities. [:@]

I once broke someone's wing mirror when I clipped it driving past a street parked car. I parked up and rang on half a dozen doorbells before I found the owner, appologised and bought and fitted a new one for her. When talking to the owner she revealed that it happens two or three times a year and I was the first person to ever own up to it! Maybe I am old fashioned but I think that is fricking disgusting!

I hope this turns out ok for you and your car, which I'm sure it will even if you have to claim on your own insurance, and I really hope you/they identify who hit your car and make them pay for it.

Hey 04 I feel your pain..........its like being kicked in the bo**ocks for sure. Your car always looked like a really nice example too!
Basically the insurance should be putting your car back to exactly the way it was before the accident...........I've gotta be honest I'd be surprised if they ask you to pay towards the cost of the tyres unless they were totally worn out, which I'm sure they weren't.
Anyways.........good luck and keep us updated

Cheers
Jim
