X-Type 2.0d Starting problems
Hi everyone.
First post and hope someone will be able to help.
I bought my 2004 2.0d x-type privately a few weeks ago. At the time the seller told me that the car did have a starting problem but the problem had now been resolved. I have receipts for all the work that has been done. The car starts from cold within a couple of cranks of the engine and runs perfectly. I was very happy with the test drive and bought the car.
What I did not realize was that most of the time engine refuses to start when warm. It will start first time as many times as I like when cold but after running for about 20 minutes if I turn it off it will not re-start, this is accompanied by the flashing glow plug light. It seems to need about three hours before it will re-start but after that time the flashing glow plug light goes out and it will run perfectly again. It has never let me down when driving, not even limp home mode.
I have attached a code reader when the engine fails to start but no codes are found. Here is a list of work already carried out within the last few months:
New cam sensor
New crank sensor
New mass air flow sensor
New fuel filter
New injectors
New glow plugs
New fuel pressure rail knock sensor
Fortunately I did not pay for all this work to be done but I guess the previous owner, after spending so much money gave up at that point.
I am reluctant to take this car to a main dealer because I suspect they will start clutching at straws and replace expensive items like the injector pump etc and due to the fact that it runs so well (when it starts) can only be something relatively minor.
So, has anyone else encountered similar issues and if so is there anything else that has not already been done that I can try.
Thanks in advance.
Steve

Flashing glow plug after 3 secs of starting
Hi Steve,
I am new to Jaguar forum, joined today.
I have an almost identical experience and am currently not running my X-type estate because it will not start. When I bought the car (privately) two weeks ago, the owner advised that I switch the ignition off after the glow plug light goes out and start after the light goes out the second time.
Initially I forgot to do this, the engine started and the glow plug came on flashing after 3 seconds. I tried the technique described above, but the engine always started with the light flashing after 3 secs. I waited 24 hrs and tried again, but with the same fault. I phoned for a diagnostic check which was 3 days away. On the 3rd day I tried again and the fault was clear and I drove the car with no problems for a week. All driving quite cautious, getting used to the Jag, and enjoying a very good fuel consumption around 41 MPG.
I tried to start the car yesterday, initially forgot to wait at all (thought I was in a petrol car) , the car started, I immediately after 1 second remembered about the glow plug and switched the car off. Now it will not even fire - - - Help!!!
