Hi, I am new to this forum. My 2008 (09my) diesel has had numerous problems which I have tackled as they have arisen. Most recently the car became very gruff and harsh at low speeds after the steering pump was replaced. Garage could offer no explanation. Then I took it to a transmission specialist because it seemed to be hanging on to lower gears at low speeds (up to 55-60mph). They diagnosed fuel starvation so I took it to a diesel specialist who found crud and milky diesel in the filter despite filter replacement a couple of weeks previously. Filter replaced with Delphi item and told not to use supermarket diesel. Could not explain harshness which was still present. Since then car used daily but still hanging on to lower gears. Only really seems happy at 70+ mph which is not practical. Anyone know what might be causing it? Is there a connection between the noise and the gearchanging? It just passed its MOT with no comment.
