Default which x type

hi everyone i'm looking to buy my first jag and am now looking at an x type, can anyone recommend /advise which is best manual or auto and if so why (think i'd prefer an auto) also i think the 3.0 is going to be too thirsty, so what does everyone get mpg wise out of the 2.0/2.5. also can anyone give me a few pointers on what common faults i should keep an eye out for many thanks neil

I have a 3.0 auto and love it, but only drive around town - lots of stop and go traffic.

I got an auto because nearly every car I've driven has been stick, and I was just tired of stick.

3l auto sport, not much difference in gas consumption between the models.
the 2.5 is generally more readily available from my research a few months ago, most "for sale" ads were 2.5s
i'm glad i held out for the 3.0...i was shocked at how "firm" the sport version is....very un-jaguar like...(i'm an ole XJ6 owner)...but i do love the firmness.

there are quite a few common faults, most are easy/cheap to repair....look in the FAQ section to get an idea, the fixes are all listed there

gas averages 28-32 mpg if the car is running well, dont know what milage i get....i know its better than my old POS landrover...hehe

As for Auto or stick I think it is your preference, you could hear arguments for either but it comes down to what you want. I would suggest going with the 3.0 over the 2.5 (if possible). In my opinion (after owning both a 2.5 and 3.0) the gas mileage is the same, but you really see a difference in acceleration, and if it matters the sound is a lower growl.

If Bristol is the UK Bristol, why not consider a diesel?

Had a 2.5 '03 now a 3.0 '07. 3.0 has much more power. I also have the auto. Stay away from the early automatics. Had 3 transmissions in my '03 in less then 10K miles. Got sick of seeing the "gearbox fault" warning. Dealer said it was a common problem. Jack

Smile Which one to buy...........

Hiya, bought my first Jag last week - x-type 2.5 2007 SE. Spent months looking and can honestly say sooooooooo pleased with my decision. Has loads of gadgets as you would expect, on average between 32-35mpg use in town and motorway.

Just remember road fund licence on the 2.5 is £445.

Good luck happy hunting and enjoy.

Jakey
