Start with fuel pressure. You will need an OBDII computer reader or some sort of mechanical fuel pressure gage that can tell you if your fuel pressure drops after the pump gets hot.

Also, ensure you have at least 1/2 tank of fuel.

Anything else would trip a code. Where there any??

 

The problem is not at Idle, you need to tell them it's stalling at highway speeds. The pump can produce enough pressure to keep it going all day and night at idle.

I'm pretty sure your pump or pump related problem here...aka relay/pump/pressure sensor

what year and engine is your car? I believe you have the same problem as i do. Please read my post: "my engine keeps stalling? i am almost certain it is the fuel pump. My mechanic replaced the fuel pump but I did not have a chance to pick up my car yet. I heard the pumpfails quite frequently.

 

Well i don't know about it being a common problem...

 

Jag dealer told me that its common enough to keep 1 fuel pump in stock. and Grimm's friend from this jaguarforums had the same year and similar miles and same engine. we both have 2002 x-type 2.5 liter with approximately 80,000 miles.

Did you find a resolution to your problem? Mine died at 55mph after idling around in traffic for a while. I coasted to the shoulder, waited 4 minutes and it started up again. Also, when it is cold, the engine starts, but then stalls out. This is happening more and more frequentely I usually have to wait 4 minutes before attempting to start it again.

I have had a CEL with two codes, one being the air intake sensor, but that one has sense gone away on its own. The other is the p0430 catalyst efficiency code which still remains today. The Jag dealer said to put in a new catalytic converter. For a car with only 70k miles, i'm debating if that really is the problem or if all this other stuff is somehow linked together. The fact that the car runs very rich upon start-up, it dies, and you have to wait tells me that the fuel system might not be pushing the right amount of fuel through the injectors. It could also explain the low oxygen/high fuel count in bank 2, these aren't carbureted engines. Everything is electronic, and I have no idea what sensor would need replacing or tuning etc.

Anybody with ideas here? Do you think my hypothesis is correct and all of this is somehow linked?

Sounds like vapour lock to me, even though it's very rare in fuel injected cars.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vapor_lock
