I am still lovin mine too! I had my first problem with it the other week after a long drive home from an airport I as disappointed to be home... I wanted to keep on driving :-)

ACM = Excellent and I installed it myself. Won't power the iphone but works great with an ipod.

 

have read through all these threads! isn't there anyone anywhere on the planet with something negative to say about x types?! love my red 2.0 ltr D to bits!

I'm in, I have the best of both worlds, I have the Sport model so 18s and stiffer suspension, corners like it's on rails and I have an estate so I have room for everything. Add to that the rare factor with a Jaguar Wagon. I get comments almost every day.

The car is a pleasure to drive, once I get rid of the factory radio I'll be 100% happy, now I'm 99%. I'd like bluetooth through the radio with the ability to play MP3s.

 

I love my 04 x type. She has the look I wanted and I love the way she handles. She just owns the road. I had to have a red one. The salesman kept pointing towards black ones and I told him if it isn't red, I don't want to look at it.

I've had few problems. A sensor. A battery cable. Minor stuff. I just love her for that! (Oh, and squirrels) The throttle body is another issue but every car has at least one expensive fix to look forward to.

I always use premium gas of the major oil company brands, although I've read some people use regular. The mileage is actually pretty good.

I would really like to find an estate for my dogs since I don't want to drive anything but a Jag now, but that model seems to be rare here. I've never actually seen one. I think I'm going to keep looking. But what I really want is a convertible. I'm just afraid of the green mess they make. I have to read more about them.

When I first got her, a friend of mine kept saying it was just an overpriced Ford, and that it would be constantly breaking down. She also said the wood was just plastic; later, she said I'd get termites. It turned out that she was angry with her hubby for not letting her buy the Mercedes she wanted.

I'd like to say that I'm going to keep this car forever, but I've promised to give it to my daughter eventually.

Did I mention that I love my car? lol

 

Only had my 04 2.5 X for one week and I am already in love with it, I keep looking for reasons to go out and drive it! Traded a Merc. C220 sport for it, nice car but no way did it even come close to my beautiful X Type. Once many years ago I owned an original 3.8 S, loved that also, sold it to get married, missed it for years after.

well I,ve had my X for 2 years now,,and love it more than the day it brought me home.In fact me and the wife sometime's argu over me talking about the car too much..say's her..I have a few thing to it,but im trying to keep it OG style..Ive put about 2000g into it so far and have another 3000g's to finish it up.assuming it keeps in sound mech order.I even went thru the whole I MUST HAVE RIMS THING,,yes I am still on the hunt for some sweet a$$ melbourne's but i have the tabbago rims and have fallen in love with the fact that I havent seen many of em around..Aside from the odd quirk in our car's they arnét too shabby.For me I still get excited when I'm driving or stopped at a light a look down my hood and see my cat ready to leap of my car as if it can't be contained..
I love this car..................and I.m learning to love my wife......kidding

Thanks Bolly for the post. I really, really love my Jag. I have the 2002 2.5 Sports. I bought it brand new in 02 and it is still going strong. I have 120k miles on it and the styling is timeless. I get compliments on the car everyday I drive it. I love my CAT!!

 

ACM powers my iphone 4 just fine. The integration works just as well on the iphone as it does on a regular iPod.

When I connect my iphone it says - device not supported (or something like that). I click dismiss and it works as expected. I can use my steering wheel controls to change playlists etc.

I use my iphone to listen to not just the ipod in the phone but also Slacker, XM and Pandora. All work flawlessly while charging the phone from the ACM. The audio is via the line out cable as well.

The only issue I had was when I upgraded to iOS 4.1 only the ipod feature would work. Pandora or other media apps would play for a few seconds and then it would switch to the iPod. So I downgraded my iphone OS to 4.0.1.

The bluetooth on the x type also works superbly with the iphone.

Mine is an 07 ACM, installed by the dealer. Overall, the ACM is by far the best audio integration I have seen on any car I have ever owned. It's pretty amazing. Works with my ipod, iphone and iPad. No problems. With the iPad I end up using the aux input since the ipod cable it too short!

 

Are you planning on getting the ACM? to play mp3? Also, the stock Alpine radio on my x type sounds very good. Much richer sound than either my previous C 280 or Acura TL. The TL was supposed to have one of the best audio systems (this was back in 2004), but the x type beats it in my opinion - although the TL supported DVD-A....but those were really expensive and so not much use!

 

My thoughts on the ACM are, it doesn't solve my bluetooth problem, what it gives me is the ability to play MP3s and that's about it. At 400.00+ for the piece, then I have to install it. It just doesn't seem like a good value. For 700.00 I can get a double Din head unit, gives me the ability to play MP3, maybe DVD, adds a backup camera capability and will add bluetooth.

 

You could attach a Bluetooth dongle to the ACM. For instance Sony has a Bluetooth adapter for headphones. You can connect that to the audio jack in the ACM. It works pretty well.

One problem with Bluetooth in some head units is the placement of the mic. You end up with muffled or broken audio.

When I was looking to buy my Jag I asked a PhD scientist type guy at work if he ever owned a Jag or knew anyone who did. He pretty much went off the deep end telling me I had no business owning a Jaguar. He sent me links to ads for used Hondas and Toyotas for sale etc. Maybe a Ford Focus here and there. lol ...and In the subject line he would write "Far more sensible choices than a Jag". The guy was looking out for me and that's nice but I looked at these ads for econo boxes and then I would look at the X-type and think, They can’t all be bad, this car co. has to have some integrity and build a reliable car once in a while, LOL



If you mention to anyone that you are going to buy a used Jaguar, they usually cringe at the thought of expensive repairs on an unreliable car. I’m new to Jaguars and I guess Jaguar has earned this reputation. Tbs, most cars have a weak spot in the engineering. My Cadillac Eldorado was a great looking, fast luxury car, but the headbolts tend to pull out of the aluminum block and cause head gasket breach followed by uncontrollable overheating. At this point the car is nothing but problems.



In any case, I love my X-type. I like the size of the car and the Duratec is a reliable, aluminum block engine with good power and, a good rep. The AWD and Sport package make the X handle like it’s on rails and the looks cannot be beat in my opinion.



Also, this site has been a major help to me in avoiding trouble with the weak spots on the X-type. I got mine with 80,000 MLS and it rocks! A sincere thanks to all the members that post as much info as they can, and post good pics of their work.




How about more pics of our Jags on THIS thread????? It’s about appreciating our nice rides and one of the biggest things about these cars is that they look like the classic X-types but they are probably more reliable and definitely just as fun. The same eye-magnet for the unsuspecting passer bye.




The AWD is way better than FWD would have been and I’d guess that Jaguar thought about making it FWD. They were prob. somewhat at the mercy of what Ford motor co. would approve but still, It had to be a real Jaguar and there are NO front wheel drive Jaguars. Conclusion, very happy with the car. I was a little hooked on Emoticons tonight, but you guys are a tough bunch.

I am 10 months into ownership and am still loving this car. I am always looking back at it when I park and admiring the styling. I have just had some experience of driving it in the snow here in the UK. Mine is not AWD but it did very well passing a few of them BMW sledges up the hills.

I have had no problem with my car other than having to change a failed rear parking sensor. Happy Days.

 

I may as well add my 2 cents worth. I have always been passionate about the vehicles I own. The only nice (luxury) or expensive vehicle I have ever been able to purchase was 1995 Cadilac Sedan Deville. Big and beautiful. I was proud of the car and myself when I was driving her. But, she didn't compare this 04 X-Type (2.5 5 spd manual).

If possible, I will not own anything else in the future. I hope to take care of this car and keep it for my remaining years. Might not be possible in today's economy, but nothing else will ever compare. It's a great car. Still feels brand new with 80,000 miles on it. How can you beat that?

 

I also agree with your nicely worded post. My 2002 X-Type 3.0 is the greatest car I've ever owned. BMWs and Mercedes are good cars but the Jag is special, it has class.

Just chiming in here ... I really like our 2004 X Type! It is actually my wife's car, but I drive it whenever I can. Power, handling and that Jag look. We get compliments all the time!

She always wanted a Jaguar and when we found out we could afford the X Type we started looking into it. Reliability was my biggest concern, but when I learned Ford was involved with the X it became a no brainer.

Overpriced Ford? No way!!! Lexus = overpriced Toyota, Cadillac = overpriced Chevy, Acura = overpriced Honda, etc, etc. IMO Ford's involvement made the car BETTER by bringing reliability. In fact, I saw in a consumer magazine that the X Type was considered one of the most reliable cars in it's class during it's model run. Also among highest in consumer satisfaction!

For what it's worth, we have been having some minor issues with the car and were considering getting rid of it. We were concerned with the car nickle and diming us with repairs. However, I've found this forum and the mystery of working on the car has been removed.

I'm not afraid of working on the car and actually enjoy doing my own repairs. However, even with the JTIS there was still some mystique about Jaguar repair. Now that I've found this forum it definately helps to read about others' experiences to know any given job is doable.

The car has about 63K miles on it and we plan on keeping it at least a few more years. I've done the TC fluid change, differential fluid change and lubed the prop shaft. I'm planning to change the ATF next. Will tackle the plugs when we hit 75K per the maintenance sheets. Now that I know how to do thanks to this forum!
