A few months ago I bought a 2003 x type 2.0 diesel. With time a few rattles appeared and this weekend I wanna tackle all of them but I would like to know if there are a few how to's available since I didnt find too much info so far.

1. Defrost vents rattle, this one I've seen in many threads but I am not sure how to proceed.
2. A small rattle when going over bumps coming from the driver's window but if the window is lowered a bit the rattle goes away.
3. Steering wheel airbag rattle when engine shakes at low speeds (steering wheel facelift model), I bought this new wooden steering wheel which I love but it had no airbag so I had to buy another one. It has a metal ring that keeps the airbag in place but I was told that it wasn't properly removed so the ring wasn't straight. If i find a new ring will it make the airbag to stick in place and the rattle to go away?

I can certainly help you with the defrost vent rattle as I had this myself....very annoying. As you say, there are many posts about this from silicone to gum to double sided trim tape. Eventually though, whatever method used will fail. that is except the rare earth magnet fix (on u-tube). Get two small, say 10mm, certainly no more than 20mm rare earth magnets from e-bay. I fixed mine with epoxy resin, one to the dash, the other to the underside of the vent at each end. Make sure you have got the "poles" correct and they attract. End result no more rattles and a vent that can still be removed if need be. Of course you may still be able to buy the correct circular clips, an even simpler fix, if you can get them in the right color.
Did my vents 18 months ago and have had no further problems.

As for the window rattle, I have exactly the same thing only from the drivers door. I simply open the window very slightly, as you do. Will get round to taking the door panel off one day to find the problem.

Regarding the rattle in the door. I wonder if it is the same as with the rattle in XF models, a few wires touching and creating the noise. I will try my luck and get the door panel off as well as with the airbag (with the battery off of course) and see what I can find.

So I managed to solve the airbag rattle. Just had to properly mount it into place, not too hard to do actually.
I decides not to undo the door since I don't have the clips in case I break some, I will order them and then I will see what's behind the door.
Last, the vents, didn't have the time to go and buy some magnets but I will do it this week.

I also super cleaned the car using a guide on youtube on how to properly use the products, looks really nice :d
