the rear driver side is the left side, where you will need to push/turn counter-clockwiseto get the piston in

I will never change the rear brakes myself on my X-Type ever again - it was a huge pain in the ****. fronts were easy

They sell the adaptor tool so the piston can be turned back in.
Without that tool, the job can be abit difficult. Dont forget to use the alignement marks
when setting the piston...so the pads can be dropped in easily and the caliper lowered back down.

A point re. the 'special' tool ... I discovered that anlarge allen key that had been hiding in the depths of my old toolbox fitted perfectly!

Oh, one thing...does anyone know the correct positioning of the piston..er.. as you wind it in you can set it in one of two positions (from memory the two cut-out slots are slightly different) but I couldn't see what difference it would make...

I was going to go by how they had been fitted before (from new) but realised both sides were fitted differently!

Any ideas guys??

They make a left handed thread piston tool. I have both. Normal right handed thread for passenger side and left handed thread for drivers side.
I also never take off the ebrake cable.

Cranking the caliper pistons in, is a whole lot easier if you open the bleed nipple while you're retracting the piston (left side, looking forward..rotateCOUNTER CLOCKWISE) (Rightside CLOCKWISE)

I remounted the caliper assemblyloosely after I got the old pads and rotor off and out of the way and then used this universal caliper spanner tool..and just pushed in while I turned..

Why do you want to unhook the park brake cable?

I guess so it don't get kinked while working on everything and/or so it won't interfer with retracting the caliper piston too...Mine came off real easy and back on real easy..no problems..
