Hi i have a 2003 2.5 x type sport. I was wondering if any one could help, when i put it in reverse i get a 5 second beep and thats it, ive checked the sensors and they are all ticking as i believe they should. I hope i am posting this in the correct place cheers.

 

darwenbert, if you are getting the 5 second chime (ie, problem with the rear parking sensors or associated wiring), you may need to either find a new wiring harness or the problem could potentially be inside the brain box inside the spare wheel well. If you have a friend with an X-Type, I would first try swapping out your brain box and see if that helps any. if not, most likely you have a wiring harness issue and you are going ot need to find one off a scrap car and install that.

I guess the other thing you could try is getting a spare sensor that you know that works. You can then unplug one sensor, plug in the spare (can leave it hanging), put the car in reverse and see what happens. If you get the 5 second tone, then you know you still have the problem inside the car. If you get a perpetual tone (assuming the sensor is aimed towards the ground), then you have removed the bad sensor and you need to replace the sensor that is disconnected.

 

Cheers for that, think it going to be the box in the boot as all the sensors are ticking as they should when you get down on your knees and listen.
