Default x type s type or something else

Hi all I am obviously a real novice. Can someone please identify the make of my engine and approximate year. my log book says it is a 2.5 l x type, but looking at all the photos on the x type threads my engine doesn't tally with any of the photos. Has anyone got an engine the same.

The engine in your picture is a 2.0 Liter and not a 2.5/3.0 Liter. I have attached a picture from the parts book for the intake manifold for a 2.0 and you can see it is a match for your engine.
In order to determine the year you would need the engine serial number. Unless you suspect that the engine has been changed, it is most likely a 2001.

Thanks mate. I have just bought replacement parts which I was going to fit myself (I Hope)
It looks a bit more difficult to get to the upper and lower intake gaskets, O-Rings look easier, and new coils, will these parts be the same on the 2.0 litre as they are on the 2.5.

I reckon the engine has been changed. Looks like I need to alter my profile now.

Look up the replacement part numbers for the 2.0 liter compared to what you just bought and see if they are the same. Can't really help you as the 2.0 liter wasn't sold in North America.

If you go to the SNBarratt website you can download the x-type parts catalog for free.

https://www.sngbarratt.com/uk/#!/English/Downloads.

You will have to compare part numbers but I don't think many of the parts are interchangeable between the 2.0 and the 2.5/3.0. The 2.5/3.0 share a lot of the same parts.

Thanks guys I've just found out the only ones that are different are the upper and lower manifold gaskets. What a bummer

I didn't post any pictures and am not familiar with the engine you have. Like I said, it was not offered here in the US.

Your biggest loss in being passed off with a 2.0 liter X Type is that it's front wheel drive rather than the All Wheel Drive of a 2.5 or 3.0.

Default Engine

We have 2.0 and 2.5 X-Types and your engine has the 2.0 manifolds and fittings, Does it have twin exhausts, that is a fitting that is usually only for the 2.5, 3.0 cars, single exhaust means 2.0 FWD.

I would replace it with the same one thats in the car at present, it looks fairly old so obviously it has worked in the past.
Do you have a reason for replacing it at present?
Drop into a garage and have them perform a test to see if it is still operating to specs.

Thanks Robman. The reason I want to change it is I have misfires on 1,3 and 5 and cruise not available. I have did all the other things suggested on here, coils ,plugs, upper and lower intake gaskets, maf sensor, pcv hose. I have just ordered the brake booster hose which I will change when it arrives. Someone on here suggested the possible cause could be a weak battery. I'm not convinced though. I'm at my wits end and pockets nearly empty. My brakes shudder a bit when I first drive a little bit which makes me think it's possibly the brake booster hose. Do you know if there is anything common with cylinders 1,3 and 5 but not common to cylinders 2,4 and 6. I would have thought a weak battery or even a vacuum leak would cause a misfire on all the cylinders, not just 1,3 and 5. Any help would be most appreciated. P.S The battery that's fitted I'm not sure is original. I bought the car from what I've since found to my cost is a dodgy dealer.

Is the knock sensor a possible cause
