X-type Sports Wagon DSC Question
Hello.
I am more of a S-type kind of guy, but I was considering purchasing a X-type Sports Wagon. But, if I purchase one, I'd like to find one that came with DSC, or perhaps the "Sports package" I would use the car in the snow over the winter months.
Does anyone know if they built the Estate/Sports Wagon model in the USA with DSC? If yes, what model year/s?.
One of these with DSC might be very difficult to find.

Do you know if there was a code in the VIN to show the car has either the sports option and/or DSC? The standard X-type has a 51 in the VIN, and X-types with the "sports option", with DCS, have 53 in them. So far, all the Estates/Sports Wagon's I've ran across have a VIN with 54 in it.
51 = X-TYPE 4-door High Series
52 = X-TYPE 4-door Entry Series
53 = X-TYPE 4-door Sport Series
54 = X-TYPE 4-door High Series Estate
55 = X-TYPE 4-door Entry Series Estate
56 = X-TYPE 4-door Sport Series Estate
EDIT: At least in UK market DSC was an option on all cars.

Thanks for the VIN explanation.
For the past several months of looking, I have only seen Estate/Sports Wagons listed for sale in the States with the 54 VIN number.
I saw pictures of one that had the blacked out chrome, and sports wheels. I thought it was a sports edition, but it had the 54 VIN and no DCS.

Two easy giveaways to identify the sport package - the bumper trim is color matched to the car instead of chrome and the front seats have a more cushioned side supports (very comfortable btw) and slightly different "perforated" look to the leather. The suspension is also a fraction lower but that can be difficult to tell, and the original wheels would have been 18" I think but not 100% sure. As you may have gathered from elsewhere, don't touch a car without DSC, especially if you are planning to use it in a northern winter. With DSc, the wagon and saloon are both great in bad weather - mine has handled the last 4 canadian winters really well!
Happy hunting - only 4,000 or so wagons were ever sold across north america and most i have seen for sale in canada are not the sport version.

I've been looking for a wagon with Dsc for a few years now and have yet to see one in the US with Dsc (although there must/should be some?) I saw a 2006 with Dsc a year ago here in Nebraska (was real low mileage but out of my price range) but this was a Canadian car which had been imported into the US...easy to tell has the heated FRONT windshield.
I have one without Dsc...death trap comes to mind sometimes in winter (but what a great looking way to go)..I won't let my partner drive it in winter. I'm, hopefully, fitting a 2003 transfer case with the viscous coupling this winter.

I did a quick search on Autotrader and saw at least a couple with DCS. There is one not too far from me that has it. although it is tough to confirm from the pictures. There is at least one other as well. So, they are out there is you are persistent.

I have an '05 sportwagon, 54 in the VIN and has DSC. I think it may have come as part of the "premium" package or the "cold weather" package (mine has both). Good luck finding one, I have looked at quite a few x-types, very few seem to have the DSC. Mine is definitely a U.S. spec car.

I've found 10+ listings for X-type Wagons around the USA, and 6 Estate Wagons in Canada. 2 of the 10 in the USA have DCS, but they are the most expensive. 4 of the 6 in Canada I located have DCS, but it is too much of a hassle to bring one into the states.
The DCS option does not seem to correlate with the 54, 55, and 56 VIN codes.

I wonder if it is possible (and practical) to add the DSC to a car. I believe it was an option offered throughout the entire production run of the x-type. Was it a dealer installed option or was it added at the factory? What would be involved?
Perhaps someone wiser than me could chime in here.

DSC wasn't standard on any trim level but you could order it to any trim level as an extra.
DSC has a different ABS pump, a yaw rate sensor and steering angle sensor.
Edit: Also that button near handbrake could be only for TC and not DSC if only TC was ordered as an option.

I still haven't ran across an X-type Wagon that fits my budget or has DSC and other features I'm looking for.
I have run across only 3 wagons in the USA for sale with DCS, and 2 in Canada.
This is a rare combination indeed...

The term "Sportwagon" is a misnomer for US cars (and for most Canadian cars). The Sportwagon - that is with the Sport trim (no chrome), sport suspension, large wheels (i.e with a harsh ride), sport seats, was sold in Canada only in 2004. Thereafter Jaguar kept the model name but all the wagons sold in Canada from 2005 onwards had the "comfort" suspension (that is what is labelled on the shock units) and the normal high-level sedan trim, full wood and leather, heavily optioned. In the US the wagons were sold only from 2005 on, and only in the "comfort" version. The DSC was optional.

If there are slots for coins instead of a button no DSC
