Wallace, sounds like an issue with the ECM. I would first check to see if the fuse for the ECM is good. From there, having the car taken to a reputable shop would probably be advised. Odds are, what they will tell you is that the ECM is toast and needs to be replaced. Unfortunately, this isn't something that you can do on your own as the ECM needs to be programmed to the car.

Also the engine bay fuse boxes have had issues. ECM relay is in there. Smack the fuse box a few times while someone else tries to crank it.

Default happened to me too

happened to me the day after we bought my 2002 X-Type. We bought it about 18 mo. ago, so it had some miles on it (54,000). It terrified me, as we had just bought it used!! In my case, it went off and everything but lights, radio etc. shut down while I was driving it, and it coasted, radio display said "Limp Home Mode". it continued to go about 5 mph until thankfully I got home around the corner. And then I kept trying to turn it off and start it. Nothing happened.

Then I twisted the key again, and it started. I had it looked at by a non-dealership import mechanic, and we could find nothing wrong. And it has never hapened since.

I was wondering if maybe somehow I had reset the computer or something?

I would like to see the replies to this post as well.

Sorry I could not help you, but wanted you to know that mine did this and then has never done since.

Everyone should check their grounding wires from the ECU located on the passanger side... I spent 375$ because this same issue happened with me... The dsc fault kept scrolling on the screen and finally, went to start it and nothing.. all gauges and such came on as usual but, nothing else..

Had it towed to my indie to find out it was just a loose connection (typical of a midwest car)... So check that out.. could save head ache later

BTW that was on a 03' X-type sport 3.0

Speaking of grounding and electrical stuff.... I do recall now that some months after purchase, and after same symptom as thread title which resolved itself, I had another freaky thing happen. When I would turn off and lock the car, the AC would go on, blower and all! It freaked me out, I would come in the house at night, and then run out to the car to get something, and AC was on!! In addition on two occasions, I tried to turn the headlights off to go into a gas station, and they refused to turn off!! Ended up just being a relay fuse up under hood. Dealership could have charged me $$$$$$$ saying the computer was messed up (which we were afraid of initially), but I took her to my local back-hills Euro-car mechanic... and Voilla', $15 out the door.

Make sure you get a second opinion, if they say it is some severe and $$$$$$$$ problem. Good luck to you. A parked Jaguar is an unhappy Jag.
