Default Xtype transmission

My 2003 jaguar xtype won't shift gear . What I mean .it's that thebcar goes in reverse good no problems but when I shift to drive .it only has the last gear . No 1st, 2nd or 3rd. Just drive . It is an automatic transmission . And how do I know for sure how to check the correct fluid in the transmission

MIquel, sounds like you are low in fluid. As for knowing whether you have the correct fluid in it or not, the only way that you can be assured is to either drain it and then add in all new fluid or to drain out a little bit and then send it of for testing to have the lab tell you what kind of fluid that is there. The fluid testing is about $20 as I recall. Granted, they normally like to know what fluid they are dealing with so they can measure the additives in the oil and tell you how much of them are left in the fluid to then give you an idea of how much more life is left in the fluid.

Thanks for the info . I really do appreciated I will add some fluid tomorrow since I have the car on stands I will get the necessary to change it . Since it does not have a stick to check it . Any ideas as to how much sure I add . Or how many quarts do I need to get it change .
