Default 2015 XE engine done

Hi I think my engine has just packed in and I’m wondering if any could tell me what engines are compatible with the xe as I’d like to replace it but with a cheaper alternative if possible?

Is it Diesel, 6 cyl SC or 4 Turbo?
On Diesel the engine damage is common likely due timing chain failure
On 6 cyl SC the engine damage is common due to overheating due to a break in plastic pipe that causes loss of coolant.
On 4 cyl Turbo Ingenium, no reports on common engine failure, major issue is Turbo failures but does not affect engine damage.
What is the problem? Did you ran your vehicle without oil? What's the Mileage on it ?

Hi thanks for replying this car was my dads but he passed away a year ago cars been parked in garage since but I remember he saying engine has gone, it’s a diesel xe 2015, I’ve ordered new battery so I can see if I can hook up a computer see if it shows any errors, I think it’s done 178000 miles mostly motorway miles, I was woundering if the jaguar would take a cheap engine as I heard some ford engines would fit?

Being a diesel XE 2015 it can only be the Ingenium 2.0 litre inline four.
It would be very difficult if not impossible to replace this engine with anything else, maybe at a pinch either the Ingenium 2.0 petrol or the earlier Ford Ecoboost petrol, but even if one of those could be used the cost of all the things that would need to be changed would be horrendous, waaaay more than the car is worth.

I see, would I be better off getting the engine reconditioned? If that’s an option?

Well it kinda depends on what's wrong with it. Do you have any idea of the failure that occurred?

Hi thanks for replying, I don’t have any idea what happened to it, I’ve just received a new battery for it and I’m waiting on a computer reading device to plug in to the system to give me a better idea of what’s up, I’m hoping i can get it back on the road as it’s a lovely car. I’m just not the best at finding problems with cars.

If the engine is damaged mechanically internally (crankshaft, camshafts, valves, pistons), it's doubtful that any fault codes will indicate this.
After checking the codes, and ensuring that the engine has the correct amounts of oil and coolant in it, then it's probably worth trying to start it.
If it fires up, then any nasty noises will be an indication of internal damage

In a lot of 3rd world countries they make that Jag run like new. Of course they'll dissamble the engine, recondition and replace it with new parts.

Please advise location, as this is crucial in deciding what to do. Rebuilt Ingenium engines are available on exchange in the UK, but may be difficult to obtain elsewhere.
Common fault on XE Ingenium engines is timing chain, but with a mileage of 178k, your dad has done very well indeed ! However, with that sort of mileage, I suspect the cost of the engine will far exceed the value of the car. Best get an engine assessment and then make a decision.

Thanks everyone for your help but after having a good look and getting diagnostic tool plugged in, it turns out it needs one new glow bulb, and a new ecu, I think I could do the glow plugs myself, but I have no clue about fitting an ecu, does anyone have any ideas if it’s possible to do yourself?
