Default 2017 XE 35t prestige AWD Brakes , Need advice please

Hello,

SO it seems like a massive freaking hassle to get the brakes from Firestone and of course the dealer wants 450 per axle in labor alone, And about 900 per axel in parts alone lmao. SO, Instead of the hassle with firestone trying to get a quote/waiting on parts and having to make 2 or 3 freaking visits. Since I wasted a trip today.

What are some recommendations for break kits/ pads/rotors under 1k ishhh?

I will need to get some jack stands and a jack I guess. but what would I need? I have done breaks before, but has been a long time. Are these relatively straight forward or does Jag do some BS that makes replacing them harder? like cables, or ebrake / drum parts kit sorta ****?

I live a mile from THE summit racing equipment as well. so I can probably get EBC etc from them. But what are people here replacing their breaks with and about how much? I wish I could use my firestone card however, but I just want to avoid them since they have been pissing me off making it such a hassle just to get a quote for god sakes lmao

How can I see what size rotors I have? I have 19 inch rims, 7.5 front 8.5 rear, (225 and 255 size tire) but firestone had 3 options for brake rotors.

Default YouTube has lovely videos to work on the brakes on your jaguar

Have you thought about joining a local jag club? Don’t be intimidated by doing the brakes yourself however you will need to measure the rotors to order the right rotors once again YouTube or reach out to your local Jaguar club in your state I did it you can do it.

For the v6 XE i believe they are 350mm in the front and 325mm in the rear. I would stick to name brand high quality rotors. There are some steps to change the rears that a "Firestone" may not be comfortable with, so an indie may be a good option.

good video:

Good luck!

Oh 1 more thing, if you decide to paint your calipers while doing the brake job, Jag sells these for the front calipers (part of the optional red caliper package).:

I have purchased (but not yet installed) Zimmerman rotors and pads for my S. IIRC around 220€ for the front axle. The rotors are made in Germany and pads in the EU. They make drilled or slotted alternatives that cost about twice as much.
You'll need new caliper bracket bolts as those are torque-to-yield. About 15€ for the front axle, and you'll need a torque wrench.

I just went through this. I strongly recommend getting the Porterfield 4 Carbon Ceramic padsBought from velocityap dot com. I also used the Brembo Solid Discs from Brembo Directly. Bought all parts for less than $800.00. Resulted in noticeably better braking too.

Just did the job a couple of days ago. The 70nm + 120° torquing sequence for the caliper bracket bolts was hard to reach for my puny arms.
For the front brakes, you can probably make things easier by lifting both wheels at the same time, so you can turn the wheels and have extra clearance for a longer lever (mine was 15" and that wasn't enough). For the rears, that's not an option.

As far as tools, you'll need:
-T50 bit
-11mm allen bit
-15mm + 19mm hex (female) bit
-T25 bit for the "Jaguar" branded cover
-10mm bolt + nut + washer to push the stuck disks out
-torque wrench that goes from 35 - 125nm
-a good ratchet
-a caliper or dedicated tool to push the pistons out
-jack + jack stand
... and that's all I can think of.

The front brake discs and pads are completely normal and easy to replace. The rear ones do require the electrically operated parking brake to be retracted, which either needs a code reader plugged into the OBD socket or by doing a sequence of actions with the parking brake switch and the throttle pedal.
I have done both front and rear brakes successfully on my 250p rear wheel drive XE and attach a guide I wrote after doing this on the rear brakes.
I used EBC discs and their redstuff pads, and they have been excellent.
Don't go near Firestone - they'll try to upsell you all sorts of stuff and cannot be relied upon to do a decent job!
