Default Anybody watching the XE reveal event live on jaguar.com?

Wow. I don't think I have seen any other automobile reveal with so much pomp and circumstance. With a song written for the car and all. Jaguar has done an excellent job of creating excitement and anticipation for this car.

Now as for the car itself ....

I am not sold on the look, at least in pictures. Jaguar sales fell 33% in 2014. Call me a pessimist but I doubt a baby Jag with a copycat grill from its older siblings will save the brand.

At least let's hope the touchscreen is faster now than the car's 0-60 time!

It's a gorgeous car... When I or anyone else I know sees a XJ or XF they stop in their track and say... OMG what's that?!? .... Not so with a BMW. Heck BMW all look the same as well. Not sure what people thought would happen here!!?!?! Ian said himself it needed to represent the current look at a cheaper price, but with same great ride. C'mon world... Did people think they were going to drive out a 4 door F-Type at 30,000 starting price?!?

Seeing the show in person was unbelieveable. Seeing the car in person, when do they go on sale? I have to admit, if you are wondering about the car, in short, it is a 4 door F-Type with the XJ interior. As for options, I am going to make a few posts about that as I have been in talks with the design team and the marketing teams and they are not confirming a whole lot right now. Maybe tomorrow morning I will get a better idea of what is going to be in the car and what isn't. But, I will make one post that has the definites in it, and a second post with my speculation of what the car is coming with (lots of "I can neither confirm nor deny what is being asked").

Tell them to dump the old Pentium M processor behind the touchscreen.

Exterior much nicer than I thought it would be, for some reason it reminds me of the old XJ shape which I loved. Not as sold on the interior so far, but then the Volvo v40 interior looks ordinary in photos and gorgeous in the flesh, so this might be similar.

I am not sold either. Same grill, same lamps...Things can change once I see it in person, but it's the same face that they have been selling since 2008, and honestly it's not exactly a timeless face that can just go on forever like previous Jaguars.

Although watching the whole event almost made me want one.

I have to wonder what some people's expectations are with this car. What in the segment is really inspiring or unique? All Jag had to do with this car was not go crazy and make it embarassingly out of touch for the intended buyer like the X-Type. I think they succeeded!

Let's be honest--they need to appeal to the well-to-do 25 to 35 crowd here!

I think it looks great, especially in the live photos that I've seen and I've always felt it's much better to appreciate a car's design in the metal; wish they had shown it in white like they did with the F-type for its launch.

Thermo, did they say why we have to wait until 2016 while the UK gets it next year?

Well I am in the 25-35 group and this does not seem like the car that A4, C class or 3 series owners are going to be running to trade their cars in for.

I'll be 26 this month and on looks alone I would have this over the boring A4 and the not too pretty 3-Series, the only other car in this class that interests me is the C-Class. I love my XF but this is more my size.

Bellanca, the official dates that they are saying atleast here is they are releasing in the UK in March 2015 and in the US in March 2016. But, like with most things, these dates are somewhat subject to change based on how things are coming along.

All, keep in mind that this car is geared towards the "young executive". They are going after the A4/3 Series/etc group and while we may be after something like the XJ, that is not what they are aiming for. While I hate to use this analogy, the XE is being strategized much like the X-Type was. This car is being aimed around getting someone into a Jaguar and then moving them up into one of the bigger/better cars. If you look at things in that light, they are spot on for what they are shooting for. Think about how many people bought an X-Type just to later move on to an S-Type or better. Not everyone is willing to spend $70K+ on their vehicle.

Agreed. This car is not supposed to be better than a XJ or XF... It's supposed to be more affordable and have better tech while keeping with feel and look of Jaguar. 45,000 is not cheap, and this doesn't look it!!! I think it's a success.

I mean let's again visit the facts:

It's there new entry level car slotted under the XF, XJ,F-type.

More modern tech: check
Look similar to brand: check
Better appeal than my freakin 40,000 dollar Nissan Maxima: CHECK

Why not? I mean look at the crap young people are willing to shell out big bucks for. The Mercedes CLA is a very hot seller!

I have no doubts that these XEs are going to be all over the place soon!

The CLA starts at 29k dollars. The CLA has more unique and individual styling. You and I may not care for it, but you won't be confusing a CLA for anything other than what it is. This XE is at best a shrunken XF and at worst it's a car that looks exactly like everything else in its segment with a Jaguar grill. I really don't understand why Callum is incapable of pulling out from the deposit of Jaguar heritage and at the very least style these cars a little bit differently in the front. Tweak the grill. Change up the headlamps a tad. The X type is trashed for amongst other things, being a "shrunken XJ" but I am afraid now the entire saloon range looks like a large, medium and small versions of the same shirt. It's getting easier to differentiate a Corolla from a Camry than this and that's very unfortunate.

But I too would like to see it in the flesh and drive it. I am 32 and I am looking for a new car to replace my X type (which being a hardcore traditionalist, I love). The XF is definitely too stately for me and this car seems like the right size. Who knows, maybe in British racing green and with a leaper on the bonnet, I'll change my whole paradigm.

I confuse the CLA for the CLS all the time. Talk about shrunken versions of other cars!

Yes the CLA is a cheaper price point, but it still shows that younger buyers care less about whether or not it is similar to its sibling and in my opinion more about style, status and reputation. I think the reputation part of that is starting to become much more of a selling point as they are moving away from grandpa cruisers to high performance cars.
