Default Brakes

One thing I've been looking into is a replacement brake system for the XE R-Sport in the states.

There currently doesn't seem to be anything on the market that is a direct bolt on replacement for the current OE.

I feel a little unhappy with the idea that my new Jag would not have some really nice red Brembo brakes peeking out from under the rims, but my current Subaru STI does.

I'm sure there are some technical issues that need to be worked through because of the brakes being used to do torque vectoring, but I figure that's just part of the ABS subsystem. My STI has ABS and Brembos.

Anyone have any idea on what solutions are available or if there's just no way in a cold hell that this would every happen? Is there some deeper technical issues I have no idea about that's keeping this down? Is the XE just not popular enough yet? What say you all?

Honestly, I don't think it should be all that complicated to swap current pads out and get Brembos or something similar. Of course if you are willing to spend you can change calipers to higher performance version.

Try this link out https://www.carid.com/2017-jaguar-xe-type-brakes/

If they were Brembo or Stoptech I wouldn't ask twice, but I don't have any experience with those brands. Though the Ultra-Lite Red Devils would probably look nice.

Edit: for example look at the shift knob section and see the "universal fitment". Lol, those will have no where to go on the XE.

How about just take calipers off, do a little Dremeling to them and then powder coat to your color of choice?

I would check out AP Racing or Wilwood for kits. You may need to call them direct in UK.

I too find the brakes to a low point on the car. I think it's more the pad than the caliper as these brakes do not dust like previous JLR products.

This is probably what I'll end up doing if there's no other solution that doesn't make me cringe or make my wallet wince in pain.

Has anyone tried high temperature vinyl wrap at all?

I can find Brembos for my 2016 XF. Dollars for Doughnuts it will fit your XE. Ask your dealer for dimensions. Or google it

ololly, your XF have the 20 inch rims or the 19 inch?

Edit: Looks like 20s are the only option on the XFs. Might be a snag for XEs

19s. And base XF goes with 18s so the calipers/rotors should fit regardless. Unless the calipers and rotors itself have different dimensions for XE and XF (which I doubt but who knows) then the kits should be interchangeable. Ask your dealer to provide you with dimensions

Was at the dealer today and looks like calipers are consistent across the board for similarly spec'd cars.

If you're looking for the red caliper effect I'd recommend simply cleaning and spraying yours red. You can get high temp wheel and caliper paint in many colors and easy to do. I did my XF supercharged a couple of years ago, drive it daily and they still shine perfect red like new. You can also get a transfer decal made with an S, R, jaguar or whatever you want to match your car. Search for my post for details. Photos attached below - the photo of the Jag wheels are the winter wheels taken recently, the other thin spoke one is my summer wheel after I sprayed them.

I also changed pads and rotors to R1 concepts drilled and slotted rotors and posi-quiet pads. Much better look in my opinion
EBC Redstuff pads popular too

I haven't done this in years but when I did I used this hard enamel paint on stuff that made it dry like a epoxy bowling ball. IT always came out so good and not much effort at all.

If I was to upgrade the brakes, I'd go for Brembos. Because the caliper's color won't increase your stopping power, but those 6 pistons definitely will

Don't mean to offend anyone but to change just the color is a definition of RICE. Of course only IMO.

Edit: not planning to upgrade it yet with only 2,500 miles. Maybe later will go for EBC red. Very happy with them on my Maxima.

Has anyone swapped out the pads on their XE to something with more bite?

Hi there,

I was wondering whether I could get some help here in regards to changes I have in mind for my 2016 XE R-Sport 2.0D..

For starters, I am swapping my 225/45 18" for 235/35 20" front and 265/30 20" read. Also thinking to remap the ECU, any advice?

Lastly, exhaust sound - Saw recently a 'Borla' kit but not sure it fits - is there anyone who has changed theirs and or has any advice/suggestion?

Thanks,

F1_Jag16. It's better to open a dedicated thread(s) and/or research an existing one(s). I'm pretty sure that at least 2 out of 3 questions were answered previously. It is still better then thread jack
