As part of warranty work, wife took car to two different dealers for a rattle more pronounced when starting the car but on occasion other times.
They replaced the motor mounts twice and secured the exhaust at least once, still not better but it sounds tinnier.
Is this a common problem? Some info from YouTube includes rattling exhaust shield(s) so this is what I can pursue next - out of warranty now.
Love the car but the other problem recently was low oil level and poor oil report from Blackstone. Recommended by them: 8,000 mile oil changes. Dealers disagreed: one said 10,000 miles, another and the owners manual recommended 20,000 mile oil changes. Sheesh. Don't know if this is related but its not good.

Any thoughts would be helpful.

Here's my insight on your second question.
Your car's engine has Turbo to it. I would recommend 5,000m to 7,500m MAX on OCI using Top Tier Full Synthetic Oil. Your car's Turbo relies on FRESH ENGINE OIL to lubricate it's moving parts.

Thanks for the input.
Jaguar/Land Rover requires full synthetic "E SAE 0W30 spec STJLR.03.5007" oil which after 16,000 miles was completely spent even though Jaguar recommends 20,000 miles.
There are only 2 kinds available in the US: Castrol E 0W30 at Jaguar dealers or Ravenol off eBay. I think I might try the Ravenol and keep sending oil to Blackstone for analysis every 8,000 miles.
You have to use Jaguar spec 0w-30 spec STJLR.03.5007 if you are doing extended 20K miles OCI which Jaguar recommends. If you are doing short OCI which I recommend (5K to 7.5K MAX) even Castrol Edge with ACEA A3/B3, A3/B4 Full Synthetic is suffice even without Jaguar specs to it.

Heat shields are certainly a source of annoying rattling on the XK and, as the XE uses similar material and fixings, it's likely to be prone to the same failure.
You will read many different opinions on the forums about oil and oil change intervals but the one thing almost everyone agrees is the Jaguar recommended change interval is far too long.

Unless I'm missing something, testing Jaguar spec oil put in at the dealer and run for 16,000 miles revealed a complete failure of the spec oil to lubricate after that many miles. The testing company Blackstone recommended 8,000 mile oil changes. I will follow up with a new test when I change it then.
I always follow manufacturer recommendations for oil spec and change intervals, but this seems like an error or outlier for Jaguar.
My fear is that the rattling noise is coming from the engine valvetrain with poor oil quality a contributing cause. We shall see.
..and mostly occurs on start-up for a short interval and then occasionally when warmed up and moving from a stop. I should really try to post it so people can hear it. Going to an independent mechanic this week since 2 Jaguar dealers couldn't fix it.....
