Default Loose roof antenna

So today I waxed the car. Not sure if clearcoat finishes even need waxing but it makes me feel very virtuous to give a coat of wax once a year.

Anyway while buffing the roof I noticed that the “shark fin” antenna was loose.

I don't really want a tech to rip out the roof liner, but concerned water will get in and mess the electrics and stain the roof liner. My last car had a similar antenna, but it had a rubber gasket to seal the joint tightly. I can't see one on the Jag. Even if it was bolted tightly, I would think it would still need a gasket to be watertight.

Does anyone on know if this is normal? I wonder if someone would be kind enough to check their XE antenna and let me know if its loose or has a gasket.

Thanks in advance

Mine is slightly loose on my X350, I noticed a gap towards the rear last year, but with our recent dreadful winter, I have yet to look at it, but like you, I'm reluctant to let a technician "loose" on it. I thought a squeeze of silicone sealant might be my best option, but I'll get it assessed at the next service.I have no water leaks into the car, BTW.

My antenna can move slightly less than 1 mm - this is relatively normal. I had it removed and reinstalled for a wrap job.

Thanks Kevin

My antenna moves a bit more sideways, plus up and down at the rear.

Do you know how it comes off?

annoyingly enough, the entire interior header has to be removed.

That's what I feared,

Did the replacement go well?

How's the wrap going?

Thanks

They definitely do. It's the 'sacrificial layer' between your paint and the elements. Not many waxes will survive beyond half a dozen washes.

I keep my cars clean but am nowhere remotely near being a fanatic and mine get waxed three or four times a year.

Well eventually I booked the car into the dealer (3 weeks to get a loaner). The existing antenna is loose. The tech found he couldn't tighten it but couldn't see why, so a new fin cover is needed. So worst case scenario - 3-4 weeks delivery from UK. Not good.

Meantime I'm stuck with a 25T f pace, which is seriously damaging to the image!
