I no I should have researched first. Released the parking brake but pressing button in the car which allowed me to remove caliper passenger side. While holding in my hand just looking at stuff I tilted downward and the cylinder fell out along with the other round threaded piece. Side note that piece has a million tiny springs that went everywhere 🤦🏻♂️. My question is did I cause myself to have to purchase a new cylinder??
You're the second person in a couple of months who's pulled their caliper apart and jumped straight to buying a new one instead of putting it back together. Do some googling for a diagram, and carefully reassemble it.
When it's all done, pay a professional to give it a safety check. Brake failure is no joke, don't trust your own work if you don't know what you're doing.
I assume you're talking about releasing the electric parking brake (EPB) to enable the rear brake caliper to be removed? If so, if you didn't put the EPB into service mode then I think there is the likeliehood that it actuated while you were looking at the caliper - and this is what caused the cylinder to "fall out".
There's a specific sequence of pressing and releasing the EPB dashboard switch while flooring the accelerator pedal to put the EPB into service mode. This ensures it stays off and doesn't spontaneously activate!
This sequence is detailed in the workshop manual but, if you need it, I might be able to dig out my own notes on rear brake caliper servicing that I put together a while ago.
