Default Sad day for Black Beauty

Rear ended while at a stop on freeway. Car is at body shop and repair estimate is at $23k and 6-8 weeks. I am 1 year into a 3 year lease. Insurance company will not consider car as a total loss. Body shop said they can properly repair the car. Not very happy but not slot of options. Neck and back are sore.

ouch.. Sorry to hear that man. Definitely sucks. Most importantly, your ok (for the most part)

I never even considered the length out time it could take to fix the car. With a lease, are those "lost payments" something that your insurance will go after the other driver for or is it just kind of a "tough luck" thing and you'll get a per day rental coverage and that's it?

Right now it seems like I lose service if the vehicle while making the payments. I have not had hard conversations with the other insurance company.

I had to have my front bumper repaired after hitting an animal, which ended up taking a little over a month. I feel your pain man. Was there any frame damage? That's what I would be worried about. Luckily in my case it was all cosmetic.

Definitely only let the dealer or a JLR approved body shop do the repairs. The insurance company will try very hard to talk you out of it, because it costs them more money. But the frame is all aluminum and some of the suspension components are quite unique as well, so its not a job just any shop can do.

Good luck man.

What do you want to bet that the driver who hit you was playing with a cell phone. Good luck and I am glad you are OK.

Thx guys. I was on my way to the gym at 5:45 am. I got the car in WLA and their body shop specializes in aluminum. The floor of the trunk is buckled. They claim it can be fixed properly.

Interesting how the red lens just popped right off.

Curious to how the show can fix this suffocated support structure. Even though this is a lease I am interested on the step-by-step process of bringing this beauty back to life.

I would get an independent insurance estimate as well. Go through the Jaguar dealer and hopefully they can get you a Jaguar loaner; doubtful but worth a try. That 23K repair bill sounds awfully high, but it's not out of your pocket...

Maybe you can fight with the insurance company to total the car and you go lease another one. You must have GAP insurance since this is a lease, no?

2017 was a year I didn’t expect to need a new car. I bought my XE only because my beloved car was wiped (no, seriously WIPED, off the street while innocently parked for the day---came back from work to find it in this old woman’s front yard next to her birdbath—smashed beyond what I could see in a Hollywood movie).
--There was no reason for that smash-up, and there was no sense to the other driver’s explanation of what happened.

But 2017 arguably was a great year for beautiful car body designs, from budget class to luxury class. Shopping for a new car made me shocked what nice designs were around this year. The XE has got to be the finest looking body design of its class that I’ve ever seen, and it still catches me in awe as I walk up to it on random evenings at just the right angle.
--It is a glorious pleasure having the Jaguar XE on the street. I love the way I’m learning how to drive this thing. I even love (though VERY rare around NY/NJ) seeing in XE pass by in another color with another driver behind the wheel.

….But the two emogine comments above are destined to collide, I know it like I know the earth is circular. A car this lovely CAN’T thrive among the deplorable population that the “drivers” around us have become over the years.
I agree with MV Rider---cellular phone addiction is the lead cause of how far we’ve fallen in ability to concentrate, socialize, watch out kids properly, make intelligent decisions, drive a car without #$&!-ing up nearby property every danged hour---Christ! But the cause doesn’t even matter anymore… our chances of protecting what are some of the best, most gorgeous cars ever created in years, and getting them through even a year without some kind of damage are depressingly low.

Coincidentally this post makes three separate forum threads I’ve read of in one week, XE owners who got their cars torn up, with jpegs of the damage too. End of summer… parents bobbling around doing the back-to-school panic juggling crap… loose truckers… slamming their vehicles into ours.

I wanted the autonomous breaking system and lane departure options on my XE. But I couldn’t afford the up-charge for them, and I didn’t even mind that I couldn’t get them because I know without bragging, that my safe-driving skills are in the upper-top of New Yorkers anywhere----it’s the owners AROUND me who desperately need those features, not me. They need a car that “drives itself”, because they’ve become impotent as car operators
… But getting the autonomous systems as STANDARD in all cars is taking way too long… the zombies will take bites out of my XE pretty soon… what can I do?

I love this car design. I honor you and anyone else who chose a modern-day XE or XF—our cars are stunning hallmarks of the year. I just think our rare year/make will be extinct in 3 years under these conditions. All around you is like the Walking Dead, only instead of walking they’re trying to drive a car---doing their best to chew your car—and by now, there are too many of THEM around you.

I feel for you owners who are the first to take damage. A lot of us will be joining you. I might be making humor with the zombie references here, but actually this is one subject that really enrages me. I hate that we have to suffer this from collateral drivers.

You should get your neck and back checked out.

Maybe a little more "damaged" than you think. In a while you just might be feeling worse in those areas.

My wife was rear ended, while parked at a dump, while in my truck. That was months ago and she only thought she had slight whiplash. She is still undergoing treatment for neck issues that got worse about a week after the accident.

Agreed on medical care. I'd go see a chiropractor and make sure there is no tissue damage in your neck or at least make sure everything is OK. If they feel there is some damage, you may want contact an attorney on this. It happened to me... I was fine for a couple of days and then the pain came on hard. I went to pain clinic that gave me shots and PT, but in retrospect a chiropractor would have fixed me faster and without the shots...

Sometimes talking about neck and back pain can persuade insurance to see your way on writing the car off.

Thx for all the input. I have appointment with a doctor on Wednesday. My insurance company said car is far from being a total lose. I will be in touch with the insurance company of the party that ran into me. Gap insurance does not apply to this situation. I will see how this plays out and if need be find an attorney to provide support.

Gap insurance would apply if they total the car.

My car is officially a total loss. I am sad to see the black beauty go away. Very nice car. I am going to pick up an Alfa Romeo Giulia Ti sport. Very solid drive much more like a go cart than the XER. Suprised how well the turbo 2.0L motor 280hp move the car. Somehow it seems quicker in city driving than the 3.5t. In any case time time to move on.

I would've considered the Giulia if it was available at the time. Lovely looking car and Alfa is as close to my heart as Jaguar. So, what is your financial obligation with car being a loss? I assume you are out on any down payment you had on the lease? How does it all work?

I had a small down with the lease. I will be asking for the down payment loss by the shortened lease and a number of other items from the insurance company of the party that hit me. When I look at the picture and I saw the car with the rear portion taken apart it is still a surprise it is a total loss. My payoff is around $41k and high KBB is $45k.

What a scam with total loss..... I seriously can't imagine this costing more then a couple grand to repair..... insurance companies screw everything up.
