Default VelocityAP Transmission Tune

I found what looks to be a newer product on the VelocityAP website...a tune for the ZF8HP70 transmission.

https://www.velocityap.com/product/j...ission-tuning/

I've sent a message to VAP asking if this tune is completely separate from the Pulley Tune, not knowing if the pulley tune also affected the shift points in the same way (doubt it. This tranny tune also adjust the Clamping, which can help transfer all that extra torque...). If not it might be a good add-on to the pulley tune. Doesn't hurt that there is a black Friday sale currently. I hope to hear back soon so I can pull the trigger!
I also want to know if we can use the v-tech flashing tool we got with the tune a few years back to load the tranny mod, or if we are forced to buy the MPV12 to do this.

Anybody done this tune yet?

I don't have it but also interested given the current sale. I'm just wondering how much of a difference it will make on day to day spirited driving as opposed to simply 1/4 mile runs which are few and far between.

Might have to call Stuart on Monday and pick his brain a bit regarding this tune

I noticed it's a tune for the ZF 8HP70-- I thought our cars came with the 8HP45?

There’s a long thread on the F-type forum about this...

According to Wiki the XE's came with both the ZFHP45 and the ZF8HP70. As the 70 had the higher load rating, I assumed it was the one that went into the 3.0L XE. I still need to verify though...tough time finding it on the net.

Also, Velocity AP has the ZF8HP70 tune listed in the XE section, so I'm assuming they know? I have sent an e-mail.

Edit/Update: Just confirmed by VAP, the 4cyl has the ZF8HP45. Thanks Stuart!

Yep! Spoke with Stuart today and he confirmed the V6's have the HP70. Sooo looks like I'll be ordering the transmission tune.

I read through the thread on the F-Type section-- one guy with a V6 F type gave it a pretty good review, it was just a matter of confirming if we had the same transmission.

Yup, ordered mine yesterday through Exotic Power and Performance. The tranny tune will go in next Tuesday with some new Pulstar Plasma plugs. :-) Going through the approved VAP dealer saves me the cost of the programmer too...Josh will have three programming credits extra after my job, so he'll be set to do this tranny tune for anyone.

Ordered the tune and programmer last night-- also got a 2014 XFR which I believe has the HP70, as well. I figured at one point I could use the programmer for that, too. If not... oh well lol.

Hello all,

Today I brought my car to Josh at Exotic Power and Performance and he installed two necessary Velocity AP updates, one for the transmission tune, and the second to update the original tuning map of the engine to"match" the new transmission tune (The second tune is needed even though I had the pulley/tune already. That Update is free with the purchase of the tranny tune)

I gotta tell ya I was blown away by the difference. It's really different, the gears hold longer so you can engine brake better, the power comes on HARD and fast. A much better driving experience all around, it's difficult to pin down what they did, but its like giving my car steroids...even after experiencing the pulley and tune alone. So worth the money and time. And you still have "wife is riding mode" if you switch off the sport mode...it does not kick you in the pants quite as much.

Awesome Job VelocityAP and Josh, I'm over the moon!

Glad to hear! I received the MPVI2 this week-- I'll be sending my file off to VAP this weekend so hopefully by Tuesday/Wednesday next week I can test it myself. Looks like it's time to whip out the Dragy again.

Just received the TCU tune (took me a while to send my file to them, they had the tune back to me in 1 business day!). I'll be flashing tomorrow and sharing some impressions.

I should be able to get some before and after Dragy runs. Not sure how much impact it'll have on 0-60. I doubt I can get some 1/4 mile runs around here. No time to go down to Mexico 😅
