Default Fire

Goodmorning ,This pass Sunday My 2009 jaguar xf supercharged caught on fire.I was driving my jag in dynamic mode for about five minutes when I got a surge in shifting and then low oil pressure light came on I pulled the car over iimmediately .lifted up the hood and seen a fire at the base of the engine. It then started to engulf the entire engine department.Im thinking that the transmission line either broke or came lose doring the surge and the fluids got on the exhaust or manifolds and distroyed my car.So I'm not sure if I want to get another one because I don't want the same thing to happen.

Hi Theodore, I have owned 2 XFs (the version you had), an XKR, 2 XE's and an F Type. None have spontaneously combusted. I heard about a XJ catching on fire which I think was owned by a mid level US celebrity. The XFs (and a lot of Jags) have a tray at the bottom of the engine which can catch quite a lot of fluid - I know from experience because my service guys forgot to tighten the bolt at the bottom of the engine and I had about 4 litres of oil in mine. If I had to hazard a completely arsey guess, it would be that you have had an accumulation of something flammable in that tray, the absence of the fluid led to the issue that you described, and then it ignited.

I wouldnt let it put you off Jags, mine at least have been remarkably reliable (much more reliable than the volvos I used to buy) although I do follow all servicing directions.
