Default Winter Protection

Living in the northeast, road cinders and chipped up cars are a fact of life. As I posted in the complaint thread, within two months of purchase the rear quarter panel flares were taking a beating. I cleaned them up, applied some touch up paint where the chips had made it through the top coat, and then cut and applied a clear protective film. Even with factory splash guards installed I am dreading the upcoming winter. I looked on-line at side skirts as maybe a way to protect the rockers and flares, but did not really care for what I saw. Besides keeping the car in the garage all winter, any suggestions?

Thank you. I looked into that, but around our area (the sticks) finding someone I would trust my car to is iffy at best. I should probably search to see if they sell kits for do-it-yourselfers.

The parts of the car you want done are not difficult. Any place that does this kind of work should be more than capable to apply film in those areas.

If you search PPF, you can find a recommended installer,(hopefully somewhere close enough to you).

If you do have to travel a bit, that's an excuse for a road trip.

Mine too were getting beat up with only 3K miles on the car and that was during the summer and fall last year before snow. I had the stone guard film applied on the lower rocker and the flares in Nov of last year .(the "self-healing" kind) Drove it all last winter in northern Wisconsin and had no issues at all. Worked VERY well. I do not have the film anywhere else and have not had any issues with chipping on the front of the car. I try my best not to drive along side of trucks on the highway or too close behind cars at highway speeds. That said the paint/clear is, in my opinion, very soft.

So I ended up purchasing 3-M protective film that covers the entire rocker panel and flare on the rear quarter. Just need to find some time to get the car washed so I can install it.
