Default XE Motor (Engine) Mounts

Does anyone know how the vacuum port connecting to the engine mounts works.... my engine vibrates and I was I was going down the path of changing them out when I noticed the new mounts had what I thought was a plug over the hole at the bottom of the mount... to protect it from dirt... however, when I watch others online swap theirs out... I clearly see that plug is installed and the vacuum line is plugged into it. However, I do not see a hole in the plug at all... it is just a vacuum within itself... so how does this vacuum line even work with it setup like this. I need to get under the car and take a look at what is already there again, but I am pretty sure I do not remember seeing the plug (which may be my problem all along). Thanks for any help.

Default Nevermind, but new question

Never mind about that question... after getting under car and looking at what is already there... it looks like the grey plug at the bottom of the engine mount is dual purpose... it is shipped as a closed plug and then you have to cut the top off to make it an open hole... then the vacuum lines fits snug within that grey plug. I did a vacuum test on the motor mounts while I was under there, and sure enough, one of them doesn't hold vacuum. So before I started to swap them both out I did a vacuum test on both of the new OEM ones... but I can't get them to hold a vacuum either unless I put my finger over the tiny hole on the side. My question is, does the mount have to be installed and have all the weight of the engine on it in order to put the diagram inside of it in the right position to hold a vacuum. It just seems weird to me that both my brand new OEM engine mounts would not hold vacuum. Thanks for your help.

Thanks for sharing that link... I did watch that one already and it was one of the better videos I could find. My only thought was he is testing a used engine mount which was already on the car... my question was more of can you test new engine mounts straight out of the box without having to install them. My thought would be yes, but in both new engine mounts, the vacuum just sucks in that little hole on the side and does not hold vacuum unless I put my finger over the hole. On the one used one I have still installed on the car, it will hold a vacuum without me putting my finger over the hole. That's what led me to believe maybe the engine mounts have to be installed and have some weight on them in order to seat that diaphragm for the first time... I would think not and more than likely I just had the luck of getting two bad engine mounts. I have another two on order from another company so I can verify. Thanks for your time.

I didn’t know the XE had active engine mounts. What trim level/engine do you have?

It is a 2017 25t Prestige... didn't know it either till I was taking a look at the mounts and noticed vacuum lines connected to them.

So got my second set of mounts from a different supplier... same thing.... I don't seem to be able to put a vacuum on them... guess I am just going to have to install them and see how it goes when they are under weight. So weird. Thanks for your help.

I guess there is not a lot of folks on this forum who have change their own engine mounts. I thought it a little odd when a package delivery person came to my house while I had my car jacked up in the garage and made the comment... "never seen a Jaguar owner work on their own car" . There may be a good reason for that. So I was thinking, since there are Jaguars with active engine mounts and some that are not... being these engine mounts that I have purchased had a plug in the bottom of them(that I cut) and I can't vacuum test them... is there a chance that there are two different mounts... once with a diagram and one without... these are labeled as T4N3780 and I don't seem to be able to find any other part numbers otherwise... just hoping someone has had any experience around this before I waste a bunch of time figuring it out the had way . I would call the dealership to see what I can learn from them... I have two of them within 30mins, but both times I have called them in the past they have been wrong on a topic and didn't seem to really seem to have experience with the questions is was asking about ZF8 flushes or Software Updates. Thanks for any help.

Forum sponsor SNG Barratt shows 5 different mounts for the XE, though only 3 have pictures and none have descriptions. Their T2H53876 looks similar to yours.

This is great website... thanks. That version of the mount T2H53876 doesn't appear to have a vacuum hole on the bottom of it. I chatted with the help on SNG and gave them my VIN... they still pointed me to T4N3780. The strange thing is... I have two sets of T4N3780's and both if I pull the grey plug out and just shine a light into the bottom hole... you can easily see light out the small hole on the side. If I peer into the hole while shining light into it, it is obvious that it is just a hollow plastic housing... shouldn't there be some type of diagram seal to capture the vacuum. In the Youtube video posted above it talks about being able to see the condition of the level of this diaphragm through the small hole in the side... but I don't see anything within the black plastic housing on the bottom. This is so confusing.
