Default 2016 Jaguar XF Prestige

have an opportunity to purchase a 42k Mile 16 XF prestige. Car is in excellent condition and retailing for $16.5k. thoughts on price? And also any watch outs. Vehicle is being offered by a local used car lot. Spoke to my local Range Rover dealership and they told me i should bring in for a pre purchase inspection before i buy this. Any insights are appreciated.

I have this vehicle and bought it used as well. The price sounds about right. They depreciate pretty fast and are a good buy. I would always take it in for a pre inspection before buying. It might be a bit pricy if performed by a dealer but they are the only ones who should know the fine details of the vehicle.

I would carefully inspect the paint and undercarriage as well given the area you live in. Where I live we have two seasons, drought and flood. Of course there is also the carfax. Just be an educated buyer.

I would for sure take that Range Rover dealers suggestion and let them look at it. I am surprised a LR dealer will even work on a Jaguar at this date and time?

Engine is important.
Diesels have issues with timing chains.
Petrol have a minor issue with VVT solenoids which is an easy inexpensive fix if not done already, otherwise pretty reliable.

I have the same year/model (in BRG that I had to special order)..Love it. All maintenance done by Jaguar/LR. A couple of unique things, tho. First, this is an all aluminum body and does not do well in hail. In fact, hail damage to aluminum is not repairable as (vs steel) it has no memory and cannot be pounded out. Mine got caught in a hail storm and about 300 dings later, I had to get a complete new skin brought over from the UK. The insurance company wanted to total it; however as mentioned above, it depreciated significantly when driven off the dealer's lot so the insurance payout was going to be about 20K under the purchase price (and I had only 6K miles it). So, found one of the three body shops in Florida who are Jag certified and worked with them to keep the repair price under the value that otherwise would had triggered it to be totaled. It took 6 months for the new skin to arrive from across the pond. The new skin has held up well since, but I panic every time there is hail within 500 miles.

The other thing is to ensure that all software updates have been done. There are quite a few that have significant impact. One they could never fix was a periodic display failure (center counsel goes black) which causes it to have to reboot. No big deal (as it takes about a minute when driving) but can be interesting if you are on GPS and the maps fail until the reboot is done.

Be aware that the tyre pressures are higher than normal. 43/48 cold.

That being said, this is the best Jag I've had. This is the 3rd. I've learned that Jags can be unique but well worth it on the open road.

I also have a 2016 XF. Have had it 4 + years and it has only needed regular maintenance. Battery has been replaced twice in that time. Comfortable and Stylish. It is very fuel efficient; we got over 35 mpg in ECO mode on a trip from WA. to CO. 2 years ago. I believe the vehicle is rated at 23 city and 27 hwy. AWD is driven daily in all weather and long road trips. Do get all the electronics updates and the account cleared for a new owner by the dealer when you are there. Enjoy your new to you Jag.

18 months into ownership of a 2019 Sportbrake S, I wanted to chime in with an observation and some info.

First off, the X260 is one of the best kept secrets on the road. Drives great, rides great, and the 3.0 V6 is a marvel. Particularly considering the the very clever engineering that derived it from the V8. If you run across a good example, it is well worth owning.

The vehicle info is actually a bit misleading on this. I didn't realize that these specs are for fully loaded GVW limits until I had the car for several months and was surprised at the rather harsh ride. What would probably be typical for most drivers is what Jaguar classifies as "light load" which is a much more civilized 35F/35R. This is the correct pressure for up to 3 occupants and one piece of luggage, so most people might usually be in this range. And there is a big difference in ride between the Light and Normal ratings. It's too bad that the high range is referred to as Normal, and the pressure sticker reflects the "Normal" settings. So for a better experience, one just uses the Light pressures and sets the TPMS to match.

+1 Makes all the difference in the world. Also, you'll notice the tires wear evenly across the tread.

So i passed on the 16 and now looking at a 2019 XFS 50k miles at a Land Rover dealership. One owner, carbon fiber trim and in great shape with all the service done at LR. Cost is $25.5k and based on my research is a pretty good deal.

Better deal IMHO. Mileage is close for both, 3 years newer, and it's an "S".

Default 2016 Jaguar XF Prestige

Have greatly enjoyed my pre-owned 16XF Prestige for almost 4 years now with only basic annual service by local JLR. Just turned 50K and have only replaced the battery, tires, and wiper blades since purchasing. Reasonable mileage, and a great driving experience. Solid handling....drove the XF in several JCNA slaloms with wonderful results...dead stock. Yes, a great ride for the $. Only niggling issue is a sticking door soft close latch that's happened but a couple of times.....cycling through the lock/unlock on the key fob fixes the issue. As others have chimed in, compared to previous Jaguar models, the XF has too many hard surfaces on the interior...very un-Jaguar like but not enough to be put off from owning this stylish ride. So sad to see the later XF's must live with a 4 cylinder. Still offering reasonable daily performance but logic would dictate the 4 will not be as long-lived as the V6 for the long term owner. Already thinking ahead to someday finding a low mileage version of the last of the V6's. Still miss my S type R with the 4.2V8 400HP. That's whole different animal.

Yes, when I bought the XF the pre-owned dealer agreed to have the local JLR do a full checkover at no cost to me. The report came back clean other than " needs new wiper blades"! Can't beat that...SOLD!

Appreciate everyone’s input, I’ve been a day late and dollar short on both vehicles which sold while i was pondering do i pay cash or finance? Silly me. Regardless after looking at the XFS i believe i am sold on that model and will focus solely on 2018/2019 years and primarily cars coming directly from the dealership.
