Default 2018 XF S 3.0D Dynamic Suspension Issue over Bumps

I have had a 2018 XF S 3.0D for a few months now, but I have noticed that when going over small speed bumps the front suspension will bang several times in quick succession, and this happens on both sides.
It is not the usual sound associated with knocking joints and feels like the active dynamics are getting confused!
Anyone else have this issue?
Thanks

I know this is an old post and OP will probably never see this now but for anyone chasing this problem - yes I have the same problem on my 2018 XF S 3.0D SB.
Which makes it a grand total of 3 cars I am aware of with this same issue (assuming I didn't buy Paolo's car!).

I'm still not sure if it's a fault or just how it is, although I'm starting to think it's a fault since I've asked this question all over and only 3 people have same issue. I mean to be fair also nobody has said they have the same car without this issue either so...!

I don't have that problem .... tested it several times in the last couple of days and no 'bangs'. Have you tried going over a speed bump on just one side to see if it's one wheel or both? How about the shock test of pushing down a front fender and see if it bounces? It sounds like you have a defunct shock.

Yeah I'll have to keep looking into this as today I went out in the car with a friend and tried to show him the issue but it didn't do it. I'm now thinking maybe its only when 1 person is in the car that it does it.
Yes in the past I have got the judder on 1 side (and both together) but not sure if I checked left and right sides so will have to look into that.

Ok after sitting on this issue for nearly a year - not that much of a big deal to live with as it's just a few funny noises sometimes, I am now motivated to look into this issue as my 1 year of warranty runs out in Feb.
So, I think the issue is what's known as 'topping out'. And I assume this issue would be covered by warranty?
Anyone have any knowlegde of this at all?

"Topping out", and bottoming out refer to when a shock is at either the upper or lower limits of its' travel. It could be a shock just bad enough to do it only in certain conditions. Or, you've exceeded the design limits of the shock.

Well the suspension is all factory air suspension and I'm only feeling/hearing the judder when the the struts extend and not when they compress.
Basically I'm getting the exact same as in this vid at the 7:40 minute mark

Default “They all do it !!”

I’ve got the same issue. Had the car (2017 xf 3.0S diesel) for 4 yrs. had several garages look at it, had front shocks changed, front top mount changed, front of the car and under tray have been off checking for something loose, but no one has any idea.
Taken it to a Jag specialist in Milton Keynes this morning who described the problem to me before getting in, then on the demo run just said “yep, they all do that! Xf, xe, f-pace, all the same, even brand new. I won’t waste your money, there’s no fix!” I couldn’t quite believe that anything would leave a factory like that but it seems they do!

Nice one Steve, that is really good info.

Funily enough I recently had my car MOT'd and asked the garage doing it (not any type of Jag garage) to have a look specifically at the suspension issue. I clearly described the issue and then they confirmed that when they drove over the nearby Tesco rumble strips as I advised they felt the same way as me - not normal, never expereienced it ever before in any car, but nothing specifically bad about it except the noise and judder feeling.
Then they looked more closely at the suspension, pulled it all apart and looked more closely (after it had sailed through the MOT all ok) and could find nothing wrong at all, in fact everything looked in great condition. They were able to isolate it to the front left suspension however.

I had some thinking to do as I was needing to renew the waranty the next day. I decided not to renew as I felt that if tere was something needing doing that it was not going to insanely expensive as it's just normal front shocks and not the rear air suspension. The garage advice was to see how it goes and get back to them if anything gets worse.

The problem had not got any worse since the first time I noticed it about a year ago and it drives well, with it being properly driven a few times by me - not actually tracked it but I have taken 911s on track several times in the past and absolutely ragged them within an inch of their lives (thank you Porsche Experience Centre Silverstone!) so my car has had to prove itself now and then.

But now I'm happy enough that nothing needs doing although I would have prefered it to act normal really!

Yep. Mine feels like front left too.
No effect on handling at all, makes no difference with different suspension settings.
Just a bit annoying.
shame really, other than this and the rubbish sat-nav I can’t fault the car and I love it.

Default Mine does too!

I've had my 30d S SB for a year now and today the tramping of the front nearside suspension was just unreal. The issue is that it passed the MoT two days ago without any faults recorded, so I don't know what is wrong. Really annoying to have this on a car of this quality allegedly!

Tramping = rapid knocking over bumps! Itsxas if tge car is going down as the suspension is coming up, and it hasn't time to corre t irself. Very annoying.

Oh ok yeah well it sounds exactly like the same thing as mine is doing (and Steve's too), in which case it's normal, apparrently.

Old post but had a similar issue I think I found the issue of my fault. The car hit some ridges and bumps in the road causing tramlining that it seems the car was trying to correct for the bumps only on one side, then car pulling to the other. I think it confuses the computer and it goes all catawampus (yes it;s a real word at least in American English) https://www.dictionary.com/browse/catawampus which causes the fault (to disengage the action of the system and allow manual correction. I restarted the car at the next stop sign and it went away. Seems allgood now. ID not notice any noises but was on smooth road after.

Checked with my iCarSoft and no saved codes so that is my thinking....

Consider changing the front sway bar end links.

Interesting finding this thread now, as I got my X260 month a go and notice I assume similar thing, when over the bumps, or even smaller hmmm bumps bit not speed bumps, especially when going on dial carriage, you can feel and kind of hear that juddering, at first I thought maybe shock absorbers had given up, but now reading al this, I guess it is what it is... but indeed very weird.

Had my X350 for a year Done 10K km This is the first thread I have found that nearly matches the problem I have.
A loud bang(s) when crossing speed humps, railway lines, or sharp ridges in the road. It's done it from almost day one of my ownership.
Never repeats, even when turning around and driving over the same spot 2 or 3 times. Makes it difficult to demonstrate.
Your reference to "topping out" seems to fit too. That attracted my attention.
Car has original air struts and the CATS. Silky smooth to ride in at any speed. Now winter is over I am going to try digging into this.
I can get the car up on a hoist and look for any evidence of mechanical contact anywhere. I will let you know if I find anything useful.
Can't believe this is "normal" It happens so seldom, maybe twice in a 400 km journey, maybe not at all.
Cheers!!
