New to the forum, and would be new to Jaguar. I'm starting to get that new car itch and I've got 2 scenarios I'm weighing. I have a '15 Chevy SS (6MT) that just crossed 75K miles and is my daily. I drive about 23K miles a year. 2 options currently on the table. Curious on your opinions. As you can imagine, on the SS forum, they were decidedly in favor of me going with option 1.
Option 1:
Keep the SS, but relegate it to 2nd car status. Get a CPO'd Mazda 6 Signature for around $27K w/5K miles, and use that as my commuter scooter. 4+ years from now, the Mazda then becomes my son's first car when he gets his drivers license and I get something else at that point. I'd have the SS for fun on the weekend, maybe put 5K miles on it a year and park it in the winter.
Option 2:
I love a good *******' wagon. I've always had a soft spot, and the Jaguar XF S Sportbrake makes me happy in the pants. Well, since they came out no one has bought them because, well Americans and SUV's. That and Jaguar priced them to the moon, starting at $72K and many priced in the mid-$80's with options. As a result, they've been rotting on dealer lots. I understand they are still available for 2020, but only as a special order. From what I've seen, you can pick them up new for ~$25K off. But to make the numbers work, I'd need to sell the SS. I'd drive the wheels off this thing and then get my son a used car in a few years when gets his license. This would be the more expensive option for sure.
My man - first of all, congratulations on good taste in vehicles. The SS is a legend and the Mazda 6 is actually a solid daily driver - but that's not what you are here to read.
In my opinion, the rub here is that the SS was the apex daily driver from a couple years ago. You had a great run with a fantastic car as your DD - so kudos, but it's time to move on. Life is too short to drive the same car forever. Moreover, the SS was never meant to be a garage queen. There are so many other cars that are better suited to weekend bomber grocery runs.
Get the Sportbrake. You won't be disappointed. In a few years, gather some loose change in the couch cushions and find a cheap thrills weekend car. That's my plan. Mid-2000's XK8? Miata? 240Z? Z3?

I'd go with option 2, I don't think you'll be disappointed. I've had mine for about 4 months now and love it, I haven't met a single person yet who even knew a newer Jag wagon existed, even the most hard-core car enthusiasts I know. It's not a 6MT, but putting it in Sport Mode and using the paddle shifters it's pretty close. In Europe you can get the SportBrake with a 4cyl. RWD Manual, that would be coolest, but the AWD V6 Supercharged in Sport Mode is really fun. I got mine for $61K, window sticker was $87K, shipped from Jag Santa Barbara, every available option, Tech, Driver Assist, Comf. and Convenience, heated windshield, Premium Interior Upgrade package. I look forward to my commute everyday, coming out of work and driving this home.

That's a great deal! Main things I would want are the Tech and Comf & Conv package, which stickers out to around $77K. If I could find $25K off on a build like that, I'd be really tempted. Test drove one two weeks ago and thought it was a sweet ride. Funny that a day or two later, they sold the one I test drove after it was planted to their showroom floor for so long.

Where are you located ? A very close second for me was this First Edition in Rochester, NY. I almost went with this one, but I already have a black SUV and thought 2 Black cars may be too much 2018 First Edition NY
It is a First Edition so the Technology package is standard, normally a $3K option on non-First Edition. It has the Comf. and Convenience, Driver Assist, Heads-Up Display, 20" wheel Upgrade, Prem. Interior Upgrade Package which I love (Rear Climate, soft close doors, 10-color Ambient Lighting, suede headliner, illuminated door stills), a very hard to find option. Also First Editions have the very cool Activity Band - wrist key standard
I emailed a salesperson, Tim, and he gave me a price right from the start of $60K and this was in June so now I bet you could get it for $58K or even better ? It did have about 500mi on it at that time from being on the lot so long and being driven occasionally, may be a few more miles now but should be < 1K.
I have the build sheet from the Dealer if anyone is interested.
For me shipping on a hauler from NY or CA was about the same to Denver so that really wasn't a consideration.

The last unregistered SportBrake in UT, they are getting more rare, only about 17 New 2018's on AutoTrader now where a couple months ago there were 50+. There won't be any 2019's or after because No One bought them.
I looked for 6 months for a Sportbrake that wasn't white or black and gave up, bought a dark blue sedan. When the back seat folds down you get a long luggage space but I would have preferred the more unique estate.

A lot of those unregistered ones are demos with a few thousand miles. At this point I'll probably be looking at CPO's to get the longer warranty, but I'm still also considering the Mazda 6. The 2 new '18's by me in NJ both went in the last few weeks.
Mine was a service loaner with 5k. I bought it a little over a month ago and absolutely love it. There are a couple little things that bug me but I'm not that picky.
Being a service loaner and sitting on their lot so long, it didn't take much haggling at all to get the CPO warranty thrown in. So, dont let the lack of that deter you. If they want to get rid of it they will make a deal.
Congrats, please post a picture of it, would love to see it. They are very rare, I've never seen another one on the road in CO. Even the most hard-core car enthusiasts have no idea a SportBrake was made, my neighbor who is at SEMA this week had no idea they existed before he saw mine.
I almost got a dealer loaner also, it has 5K miles and was a great $, I just really wanted one with every available option and found one in CA.
This was the loaner I drove and after driving it I knew I wanted one. Flatirons CO Loaner

Closing the loop on this one - I ultimately wound up going with Option 1 here, I pick up the lightly used CPO'd 6 this week. < 4K miles, Signature trim which makes it a nice little lux sedan for $26K. I'll keep the SS which will now be for short commutes / weekend duty. As much as I love the Jag, I couldn't justify killing it with miles and then still having to get a ride for my son 4 years down the road. Who knows - maybe I'll have another crack at a Sportbrake down the road as a 3rd car. Enjoy yours, they're a beaut!
you will not regret the JagWagon!! I'm on the fence for this too...or the buick regal sportbreak. a nice car you don't see very often. but you won't go wrong with the jag...I have an 05 and I tell you what its like driving a brand new car and I have 98,000 almost.
I picked up a 2019 XF Sportbrake last month. It had been a service loaner with all of 1500 miles on it, and was about $30k off of the sticker. I’ve been very happy with the purchase, but of course, you’re going to get some bias at a forum for that car’s manufacturer
prior to this car, I had a 2015 F-Type which had been very reliable. The shared engine and a number of other elements shared between the two platforms was part of my reason for picking up the best looking wagon on the market.
Went out for a drive with some other local folks this last weekend (either current or ex Jag owners)
Roads were a little moist, and we got a little dirty because of it, but it was a good time
I’ll admit I have a few complaints about the XF, but they’re minor, and most are related to my specific car. I got a great price, but it means I didn’t get to choose exactly which features or characteristics I got. In particular, I really, really want to change the color. I just can’t find a BRG wrap
I love that this is one of the first threads that I found as I searched for affirmation of my nascent yet downright sensual interest in the XF Sportbrake. I have a thing for the practical and interesting—but unassuming—lower production variants. I had a 2006 Infiniti M45S for a bit. A 2006 V70R. Now I drive a 2010 Explorer Sport Trac Adrenalin. Incidentally, for the past three or four years, I’ve been eyeing the Chevy SS. But, always failing to find the right car (with a manual transmission) at the right time, my attention has recently turned to the 2018 XF S Sportbrake. I know I should get a minivan to replace the truck. And yet, I'm a sucker for a good sport wagon. Especially if it's particularly unloved and thus affordable. I always thought I would end up in a CTS-V wagon until that secret got out and they got ridiculously expensive.
And so, here I find myself. Scouring the listings every day, looking for just the right jag to satisfy my desires. Sadly, I've never seen one within reasonable driving distance, so I just have to go on instinct and have one shipped in sight unseen. But yeah, interesting that OP here chose to keep the SS. I still haven't fully committed to one or the other (nor really even to selling the Sport Trac). But that's just the way these things go. Wish me luck.
