Do i scrap or do i replace engine
Qu. Replace engine or scrap and take the loss - without the convoluted back story i find myself in a zero sum game with my 2015 Jag XF 2.0L Diesel ingenium. After some diagnostics, inspections and I have been told by a Independent Jag specialist the following. "did some extra tests- we tried with some easy start and it attempts to fire but it wont have it so i'm afraid its down to lack of compression- I suspect piston and liner wear" recommending engine change instead of repair. A previous diagnostics also reported NOX, EGR and engine mountings issues as well.
Value / cost is a factor. Any advice , your experiences and knowledge would be very much appreciated. I'm located Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire and the car is broke in a nearby garage who cannot be part of any solution. Many thanks

A reconditioned like-for-like exchange engine will cost you around £4000-4500, there are plenty around.
Then there's the labour to consider.
It may then be that your car is worth less than your outlay. That's fine if you intend hanging on to it for a good while - otherwise if you can, break it for parts, you'll get more than the scrap value.
