Default Windshield Replacement

I just got a new windshield. 6 years of normal sand and one chip that cracked into a 6" break. Not in the line of sight, but might as well replace the glass. A couple chain brand shops gave me AI quotes on line $350-$425 which seemed cheap but I looked for a shop that had a local phone number so I could ask about chip/crack repair. They had to see the crack and then when I went out there they said the crack could not be fixed.
Months later I was at the now former Jaguar dealer getting a replacement wiper (bought a pair on the web with the wrong attachment) and I asked about the cost of a windshield, Quoted $1,350 plus labor, which I guessed would be a couple hundred $$.
Got around to calling the local shop and they said they would do the job for $1,275 total. So they did and it looks good.
I had the factory manual and found the windshield pages, and the Owner's Manual with the clues about releasing the wipers so they can be lifted off the windshield, but the shop had some data base with all that info in it already, they didn't need my advice.
You all be good.
P.

Ouch, Had mone done by safelight at my office. I had them use Jaguar Glass, my insurance said no problem i had to pay an upcharge of $250. Ended up the glass was only available from Jaguar. All good for $100 deductible

Sounds like you handled it the right way. Once a crack gets that long, most shops won’t repair it, especially if there’s any chance it could keep spreading. The dealer quote was pretty steep, so getting it done locally for $1,275 total with good results sounds like a solid deal. Nice that the shop already had all the factory procedure info too.

Why the big difference and why did you choose the expensive one?
