Default 09 XF premium luxury help.

Hello ladies, and gents. I'm having multiple misfires after changing the spark plugs and ignition coils. Also I have a whiteish smoke coming from my tailpipe that smells like fuel, I had my block and heads tested and they came back fine. I'm wondering if maybe a valve cover gasket could be the culprit? I appreciate your help. Thanks.

did you have these issues before changing sparkies and coils? If not, you likely introduced the problem with the new parts and / or disturbed the cabeling.
Did you pull codes?

Thanks,
Chris

I had a misfire in cylinder 2 i was told ot was because I sprayed the engine with water. Once I replaced the spark plug and ignition coil it went away. I changed all of them and sent the car to MAG for service on my coolant system. It came back with multiple misfires and the fuel smell coming from my tailpipe. The codes we po302, 04, 06, 08, and one saying multiple misfires at first 1000 revolutions.

Fuel smell is just incomplete combustion from the misfires, same for the white smoke unless its really thick. There is a test for a blown head gasket but most likely just need to continue diagnosing the misfire. Hopefully you are with a good shop who will not try to rip you for thousands in part replacements when all it could be is a shorted coil connector or vacuum leak.

this car has given me so much troubletrouble not losing coolant, nor is the car overheating. The only time the smoke is thick is, of I'm at a light and it starts to Bog or misfire and I go then a bunch of it will come out of the tailpipe. Sometimes no smoke comes out at all. None of these issues happened until I replaced the sparkplugs. I appreciate your help.

This is somewhat contradictory. Bottom line is: if the issues started after replacing all the remaining spark plugs and coils, go back and revert them back to originals. Especially with aftermarket stuff you may have introduced a new issue. If, however, the issues started only after MAG serviced the coolant system (what exactly have they done?), then I'd give it back to them and fix what they broke. I’m saying that because if they did more than just flush the coolant they may have disturbed cables or messed with connectors.

P0302 indicates cylinder 2 misfire, P0304 cylinder 4 and so on. Basically all your even cylinders seem to have an issue. I’m not enough of an expert to say if that is a clue and you did not indicate what engine this is. But perhaps its a starting point.

My apologies, it's a 09 xf premium luxury luxury super charged. It wasn't doing anything like this when I sent it to MAG because the car was overheating(they found a huge air bubble in my engine and they replaced my coolant reservoir tank). They also did a block test to make sure my heads and engine were good, they are.

I drove maybe 5 minutes and got the engine light and the smoke coming from the tailpipe. They said they noticed the smoke buy a little smoke is normal. I replaced all the plugs right before I took it to them so I guess there's a chance it's something I did.

I've checked all plugs, some were a little loose and I tightend them all up. My ignition coils have a brown ring around them(I've ordered the remaining 7). I also noticed the cylinder on passenger side closest to the front of the car, where you screw in the ignition coil may be stripped. So I'm looking on how to find that that coil is a little loose compared to the others.

I just took her for a test drive, the smoke wasn't nearly as bad lol. The dash lit up with the restricted performance light went thru a couple cycles with the light being on, then it went off never came back on. I'm hoping that maybe the new coils will fix the issue. Fingers crossed
