Default 2008 XF SV8 Auto wipers not working

Hello all, new to this forum. I have just acquired my first ever Jaguar, 2008 4.2 XF SV8. Very much enjoying it but have found one annoying fault; the wipers do not function at all on the 'auto' setting. The sensor behind the rear-view mirror does not appear to be in full contact with the glass, I'm thinking perhaps it has not been properly installed on a replacement windscreen. Is this a likely cause of the fault? If so, how should it be rectified?
Thanks in anticipation.

You need either a new clear double sided sticky pad or a bonding agent, it's similar to attaching a rear view mirror. A good auto glass shop should be able to fix it up. A good seal will look like it's part of the glass with no air bubbles.

Ok problem is solved. I did a bit of google research as this is not specific to any particular vehicle but common to rain-sensing wiper systems. There is a silicon medium that goes between the sensor and the glass to create a continuous path for the IR sensing beam, some are a pre-made pad and others are applied from a two-part syringe of goo. The stuff I peeled off the sensor in my vehicle appeared to be of the goo variety as the outer surface looked uneven, but it is in fact a pre-made pad. None of the local parts / accessories outlets had ever heard of the special goo. A local windscreen installer happened to have the correct pad on hand. The pad is not sticky at all, it is squeezed between the sensor and glass by the action of the clamping bracket that holds the sensor in place. It cost $88 !!! Crazy money. The windscreen guy said they usually install them with a couple of drops of light oil, e.g. sewing machine oil, to both surfaces as this gives a good continuity at the surface. I wish he had told me that before I destroyed the old pad in peeling it off the sensor as that may well have solved the problem. Anyway, the auto wiper function now works. On to the next issue.
